Confucius is an outstanding ancient Chinese philosopher and thinker. I like one of his teachings.."A wise man knows he knows nothing. A fool thinks he knows everything." First built in 1034 in the Song dynasty(960-1729), the temple expanded in East Jin dynasty (317 - 420). It was burnt and restored for many times. In 1937, the Japanese invaders burnt it into ashes. However, it was rebuilt by the local government in accordance with Ming and Qing style in 1984. Confucius Temple has the largest screen wall in China, which is ten-meter-high and 110-meter-long. There is a 4.18-meter-tall bronze sculpture of Confucius, on a stand before the hall. In the interior, there are 38 pictures decorated with various gems, gold and silver recording Confucius' deeds.

This is a very important bridge in Nanjing. The bridge was constructed from 1961 - 1968 and consists of a highway on the top level and a railway bridge on the bottom level. It spans a length of 6,772 metres (22,212 feet) which is approximately four miles long. There is a lookout tower located on the bridge and inside is a tall statue of Mao Zedong.

The city wall of Nanjing was built over 600 years ago in 1386 by over 200,000 people and took over 20 years to complete. It was designed by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang after he founded the Ming Dynasty. If you take a close look at the bricks, you will see that most of them are stamped with the names of the people who constructed the wall.

This is the ever famous Nanjing Bridge & Yangtze River.
It was a misty and cloudy evening. Even on top of the viewing platform of Nanjing Bridge, we were not able to have a very good view of the magnificant Yangtze River.
These are the pride of Nanjing.

This guy is a master in painting glass ball. He is doing this to raise fund for the Nanjing Bridge.
Their hands must be very stable when they paint the glass ball with a very fine tip paint brush. There are many tourist shop selling this glass ball at a much more cheaper price.

Pixiu is the mystical animal that will bring you luck.
A pair of Pixiu are usually placed at the door to guard the wealth of its owner and to draw in fortune.
It is believed that if you bring a miniature jade Pixiu to the gambling casino and rub it a few times, you will have luck at the table games or jackpot machines.

The Presidential Palace is HUGE so factor in the time for that. Offices start to get boring after you've seen about 3 of the same thing. The exhibition was quite interesting though. It's 1 RMB to store baggage near the entrance.

Admission 10 RMB (half-price for students)... it's a real steal! The staff looked almost surprised when I walked up at 0815 (it opens at 0800). There was no one in the garden at all, I had the whole garden to myself till about 0930. It was quiet and a good place to relax... would've been better if it was warmer! The garden is also apparently the 1st garden in olden times to have outdoor heating! (No, I don't mean BBQs/setting the garden on fire...) The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Museum is quite comprehensive and has good English captions.
