Things to Do

alternative to the closed Cheers bar

The Cheers British pub closed in spring 2011, it is now a derelict property.
A popular alternative is Maggie's bar as the local expats know it, in San Sui Wan area, not far from Old Street. Old Street has many very good restaurants serving loal food, very friendly staff who do not speak English, but choose a place with a photo menu and point and smile. You will get served.

Maggie's bar which is on the 2nd floor (US terminology) at San Sui Wan and is a cafe bar with comfy seating, lots of Chinese beer which Maggie keeps chilled, unlike the majority of bars and restaurants in Taizhou that will serve room temperature beer in high summer.

OK bar snacks, good bunch of expats, a bit expensive for China but still reasonable for a foreigner

only one real Western-style pub/bar in Taizhou. Owner and operator is English. Great place to go for a drink when you get tired of the KTV scene. English-speaking staff, very large, plenty of tables for large or small groups. Sometimes live music. Stop in for a beer
