"Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is about the warring and political battle-of-wits amongst three countries - Wei, Shu and Wu. In the story, The ruler of Wu married his sister to Liu Bei, the ruler of Shu, to trick Liu into coming to his country so as to capture him. Unfortunately, his ploy was foiled and Liu Bei escaped back into his own country, with his new bride. The ruler of Wu suffered another loss when his troops fell into a trap when pursuing Liu Bei. This story gave rise to the Chinese proverb - "Pei Le Fu Ren You Zhe Bing" (to suffer a double loss).
The 3 words carved into the rock says "Wu Wang Gong" (Palace of Wu). At this sight, there is also a "Liu Bei's Wedding Chamber".

This studio is founded by the China Central Television Station in 1987, and is the earliest movie and TV programme production base in China. The TV series "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" (San Guo Yan Yi) was filmed here, and the production cost of this series was a staggering 80 million RMB. Many film sets and props from this TV series have been preserved for tourists to visit in this studio.
Being avid readers (and gamers!) of "San Guo", me and hubby quite enjoyed this tour.

You may want to catch a performance at the TV studio. We watched 1 about a battle and you have to go earlier if you want to get a good seat, otherwise only standing place is available. If the ground is muddy, I advise you not to take the frontmost seats. We saw the people at the front rows being splashed with mud when the horses were running on the muddy ground. Haha..

Yuantou Zhu or Turtle Head Isle is the principal Tai Hu pleasure spot and is certainly a relaxing place to stroll around.
The area is basically a huge park, covering the northwestern end of the peninsula in the lake, is capped by a small lighthouse at the western tip, and scattered with tea houses and pavilions, former summerhouses of the wealthy.
Neat paths lead up to a tea house, pavilion and pagoda giving views of tree-clad islands, winding inlets, fishing boats under sail and - if you are lucky enough to catch a sunny day - blue waters.

Read the signboard in front of this fountain for the show time. Buy some small paper cups at the nearby mobile stalls. Be early to the fountain so that you can have a vantage point to enjoy the entire show. Clue: The vantage point is at 7 o' clock direction. Little buddha will be turning one round, stop & looking directly at you !
This is a circular fountain with nine surrounding dragons to protect the little buddha. At the centre of the fountain is a tall pillar structure with lotus flower.
Once the musical fountain show starts, you can hear the loud narration of buddha story - the birth of buddha. Water slowly jetting out at different directions. The lotus flower opens gradually to reveal a little buddha. Towards the climax of the show where the water is shooting sky-high, get ready your camera. However, you might need to wipe your camera lens and spectacles then as water droplets will stick on the lens if wind is blowing.
Do not stand too close to the fountain, somewhere near to the marble archway will be the best. If not you will get soaked up.
At the end of the show, your paper cups will become handy. Approach either one of the nine dragons as they will be flowing with holy water. Fill your cup with a refreshing drink. Don't worry, it's mineral water & safe for drinking.

The giant buddha imposingly stood at the mid-slope of Mashan mountain. Try walking up all the steps until you reach the bottom of the bronze statue, where the buddha is standing on a lotus pod.
If you would like to enter the lotus pod structure, you have to pay an entrance fee of RMB25. You can browse through stalls selling buddhism-related products like ornaments, bracelets, books, etc.
Climb up further & you will have the opportunity to rub the toes of buddha, which is believed to bring you good luck. You can also enjoy the great view on top.
If your legs are not strong enough to carry you up to the top, you can climb halfway of the steps.
According to our tour guide, there is one strategic point where you can "touch" the hand of buddha & have your photos smartly taken. Try it out ! If you want to have a closer glimpse at the buddha, there is a smaller scale buddha.
From far, you will notice a bronze palm planted vertically on the ground. It's the buddha's palm called "The First Palm in the World". Queue up to touch the buddha's palm & you will be blessed with good fortunes.
If you are a serious devotee, you can walk stright in to the main temple to pray for anything, from good health to abundant wealth.
