Taihu Lake

Covering an area of over 2,250 meters, Taihu Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in China. The lake connects Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces but it is said that the northern shore in Wuxi is the most splendid. More than 40 islets dot the lake and hosue geese and duck farms, fish ponds and fruit orchards. Taihu is a popular excape for those battling the summer heat and there are boats or barges for a relaxing ride around the lake.

Xihui Park is west of Zhejiang between Xi and Hui mountains. This enormous park covers 46 hectares (113 acres) and comprises of numerous gardens, teahouses, museums, temples and pagodas. Among the more famous sights are the Tai Bo Memorial Hall built in honor of the founder of Wuxi, the Imperial Stele Pavilion with decorative ceilings and inscriptions by emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) and the Municipal Museum which has a good collection of early pottery. Children in particular will enjoy the zoo and the pedal and bumper boats that are also found at this park.

On the palm of the right hand of the Giant Buddha, 4 Chinese characters (Shi Wu Wei Ying) engraved representing the eliminating of sufferings of human life while on the palm of the left hand, 3 Chinese characters (Yu Yuan Ying) engraved representing the happiness & blessings given to all living people.

The image of Giant Buddha statue comes from the zhantan (sandalwood) Buddha statue of Sakyamuni with typical Buddhism tradition based on the historical record of Buddhism scripture "Thirty two images of Buddha".

The Giant Buddha always smiles kindly with his eyes viewing all living creatures.

Gan Ning's Ship!

Gan Ning is one of my favourite characters in the "San Guo" PC game.... so I couldn't resist taking a photo of his warship. Gan Ning is said to be quite good at fighting on water with his warship.
