Composed of a suspension bridge in the south and a cable bridge in the north, Runyang Bridge is a rarity in the world. The main span of the southern part reaches 1,490 meters, which makes it the longest suspension bridge in Asia and the third longest in the world, when it opened in 2005.
Runyang Bridge links Zhenjiang on the south bank of Yangtze River and Yangzhou on the north. The bridge is part of the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway and I crossed over it on my way from Zhenjiang to Yangzhou.

This 42-meter high pagoda stands on top of the 150-meter high Jiao Hill. The pagoda is built in the style of the Ming dynasty and is octagonal with seven storeys. The pagoda, actually, has over 10,000 Bodhisattva images inside. The best thing about this pagoda are the stunning views across the Yangzi River from the top (see next tip).
Admission: Y20.

This large temple complex is located on the southern slope of Jiao Hill, which itself is an island in the Yangzi River, about 4.5km north-east of the city. The temple was originally built in 194 A.D. during the Eastern Han Dynasty and named Puji Nunnery. It was later renamed Puji Temple in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) before getting its current name in 1703 after being reconstructed due to a fire.

This tomb lies on top of Beigu Hill beside the Ganlu Temple. Taishi Ci (166–206 A.D.) was a military general of the Three Kingdoms period of China. He served several warlords, including Kong Rong, Liu Yao, and Sun Ce and is considered to have been one of the finest warriors ever to have served the State of Wu.

This temple is located on the top of Beigu Hill. It is well-known for the story of “the marriage of Emperor Liu Bei” and strategic fight between Emperor Sun Quan and military counsellor Zhuge Liang. I think these have been recreated by the means of figures inside.

Jinshan Temple, located on the slope of a small hill to the west of the city centre, was built over 1,600 years ago and is most famous for a legend about a white snake that turned into a girl and married a young scholar named Xu Xian. A monk, Fa Hai, tried again and again to undermine their marriage. Out of indignation, the white snake summoned a deluge and flooded Jinshan Temple. The star attraction of the temple is the Ci Shou Pagoda which you can climb to the top to get some great views over the city and river.

This cobbled street bends round the back of the former British Consulate that is now home to the Zhenjiang Museum. The street was built in the 2nd century and has experienced numerous renovations in the later dynasties. Today, buildings in the architectural styles of many dynasties such as Yuan (1271-1368) and Qing (1644-1911) can still be found along this street. The street features many traditional craft shops as well as some selling vinegar which has been made in the city since 1840.
