There is a school at Zhouzhuang near to the entrance to the ancient town. Instead of turning left when you see the first canal, turn right instead and you can see the school. You can sit outside the school by the canal and observe the students and teachers.

One of the main reasons why Zhouzhuang was so isolated until recently is because it is protected by a huge lake. Unfotunately, I cannot remember the name of this lake, but it is impressive under the shimmering datlight, and you can see some boats and fishermen on the lake.

You will notice that the waterways and lake outside the ancient water town of Zhouzhuang consist of many fish farms. In fact, these waters are rich in fishes, crabs, prawns, clams etc and you can try these local delicacies while in Zhouzhuang.

If you noticed, there is a tall pagoda in Zhouzhuang and you can visit it if you have the time. I could not find my way to the pagoda but perhaps you have better luck. I am sure the view from up there must be fantastic.

This would be another funny "trip". In the old time, only rich people can afford such transportation. It is called "jiao zi". It is carried by two people - one in the front and one in the back. Hmmm, imagine how comfortable you are sitting inside it. Today, you can only pay 10RMB for such a trip - but it would be a really short one, may not be comfortable though. I saw the carriers danced like ancient DISCO. Gosh! I imagine I were there, I think they would throw my heart and lung out!

Since there are so many waters around this little village, there are also a lot of fishmen here. They have their boats going out to big lakes doing fishing. You can of course pay to go with them for a fishing trip.

This was certainly something that drew our attention. My friends and I had no idea at all at the first sight of what it could be. And soon we found out it was an ancient machine that can pump water from the river. Isn't it cool? You just go up there to ride the wheel, then water comes up from the river... But be aware, this costs you 2RMB to have a try. I didn't try it though because I heard girls screaming there - I think it could be fun, but maybe I would be afraid of falling off too...

There is a town of Zhouzhuang immediately outside the ancient water town worth exploring to see the local way of life. The town is small and easy to move around.
