Despite the Chinglish title, Fresh Cake not only delivers fresh cake but also is one of the few places to find a decent loaf in this city. Freshly cooked baguettes at RMB8 keeps breakfast and lunch cravings under control. Also on offer are some sweeter and stickier alternative, doughnuts, cakes, pastries and small, odd looking sandwiches. Name brand ice cream and coffee available too.
What to buy: Baguettes, although slightly salty can be bought fresh and soft at good times. Worth the trek to find a good accompaniment for breakfast.
Outdoor seating area great for smokers, caffeine junkies, gamblers (oh and!) foreign teachers.
What to pay: RMB5+

Address: 9 Square Mall at Golden Square
The latest development of the new elegent and modern Ganzhou, 9 Square contains Pizza Hut, Zara (coming soon) and a host of other higher end shops. Beneath the 4 floors of shopping is a new shopping centre which is clean and well laid out although it's too early to say how much Western food they will be carrying as they were still adding screws when I was there recently.
What to buy: Skippy peanut butter, green tea, meat and the take away delicatessen products looked good too. I have still yet to source cereal or bacon in this city. We await the new RT-Mart, opening soon.

Address: 9 Square, Zhangjiang
This is a new underground supermarket development close to Wenqing Lu and as a newly opened shop is still relatively clean and under-populated. It's worth keeping an eye on the shelves as new things seem to be being added every week. One of the more likely supermarkets in town to spot the more Westernised kinds of food. It is the only place to stock genuine pasta and also has a fairly decent butchers/meat deli.
What to buy: Pasta, Alcohol, Groceries, Meat.
What to pay: Owt's better than n'owt

GANZHOU - a pleasant stop in South Jiangxi

South Jiangxi has not a very good reputation among travellers: boring towns, nothing to see, just a region to get through as soon as possible. It's true if you are looking for top sites and monuments...
