Guilin Transportation

I was there one February - I dont think it is usual for the Li River to ever freeze unlike the Songhua river where I went in far north China where winter is usually extreme such as minus 30.
It was cold but not particularly cold, a lot milder the more south you go - but it was a time of year that I was aware to be adaptable - and it was raining when I got to Guilin so I went to Yangshuo by minibus as wouldnt have seen anything if had gone by boat - and didnt do a river cruise when I got there as the weather was quite changeable. I did have a great time though having hired a man and moped to take me to Moon Hill and glow worm caves and surrounds - I walked up there in semis wet weather etc and booked him again to take me around Fuli and so on the next day, the places that run along the Li River so I still got to see the famous stunning scenery that you would see from a boat cruise. The weather was nicely fine that day but I was in a hurry to get back to see a bit of Guilin and catch a plane so hired a taxi - price was reasonable -.so there are a few options for getting between Guilin and Yangshuo.

The Lonely Planet guidebook was my bible for travelling around on my own around China and have just bought their beautiful new updated edition which I would of course recommend/wouldnt travel China myself without it....
I would go back in spring, summer or autumn though to do the Li river by boat whenever I get the chance again.
