The Xinghai Square was built in 1997 in honor of return Hong Kong to China. . It is located in central part of a bay Xinghai and occupies the territory in 600 thousands sq. meters. It is the largest square in Dalian.
In the center of the square you can see a Huabiao pillar with a bas-relief, symbolizing China. Its height is 19,97 meters, the diameter is 1,997 meters. These numerals remind of the year 1997 when Hong Kong was recovered to China. On a pillar is sliced the Dragon, in its base are sliced 8 dragons. All dragons symbolize the development of Chinese nation (descendants of a dragon). On a platform that surrounds the monument were dislodged out traditional symbols of a Chinese horoscope (12 animals). Find your birth year, get up on it and think of a desire. It will come true one day.
In the other side of a Xinghai Square is located another one monument. Itýs a gigantic white-stoned revealing book. It was erected in honor of a hundred-year-old Dalian and it symbolizes all historical events of Dalian. Leave a Comment

Another large square of Dalian, People's Square, reminds me very much of Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur... There are broad flat fields of green grass which you are not allowed to walk on just like at Merdeka Square... At Zhongshan Square there are also many big banks, and you can find an ATM machine... At night, the square is a very popular meeting place and many people come to listen to music and dance in the square...

Dalian is situated on the famous Yellow Sea which lies between north China and the Korean Peninsula... This part of the Yellow Sea is sometimes referred to in Western cartography as the "Gulf of Korea" or "Korean Bay"... The fishing industry is very active here and there are also some nice beaches as well as endless massive lush green hills...

Friendship Square is much smaller than nearby Zhongshan Square... It contains the giant spherical International Friendship Monument, which is lit up with colored lights at night... There are also a few shops and restaurants around the periphery of the square... Leave a Comment

Here is a photo of me lying on the back of a giant turtle at Dalian! This is the world's biggest turtle and he is very friendly...! He'll let you climb right up on his back and take you for a ride in the sea... In China, turtles are revered for their great longevity and in fact, this turtle is more than 3000 years old! People's Square, also called Renmin square in Chinese, was originally known as Stalin Square but the name was changed later for obvious reasons... While I did all the strenuous work of stopping those two giant crabs from tearing each other to shreds, Elva just sat around on this giant seashell, looking pretty... Manchuria was a savage, barbaric land, filled with horrifying overgrown mutants... Had the Chinese been testing nuclear devices in the nearby forbidden zone of Lushun...? Zhongshan Square is the central square of Dalian, and one of the biggest squares in the city, kind of like Place Charles de Gaulle in Paris, a large circle where many roads meet... Most of the buildings in this square are Russian style architecture, reflecting the heavy Russian influence and history in this region of China...
