The Streets Around The Hotel Jasmine: Exploring Suzhou at Night

by DueSer

Now, bear in mind that when I experienced this it was the first night of the three days of festivities for some holiday. I never really did get a clear explanation of what that holiday was just that it all ended in a big dragon boat race on the third day.Whatever the reason, the streets of Suzhou were full of happy people strolling about having a nice, relaxed evening. There were families out - no groups of annoying teenagers in big groups acting stupid, no one (adult or teen) seemed drunk either - and it was all safe and exciting and fun.The shops were open as were the restaurants, which had sidewalk tables, there was a lot of neon and there were rides for little kids. Two little ones even ran up to me excitedly to practice their English ("Hello! How are you?! What is your name?!") and when I answered them in English they giggled and ran back to their parents. Just adorable!:-)There...

Options Varies-- Filipino Bands ROCK: Wan Chai

by acommon1

If you want to hear some of the best bands in the World then head to Asia. You can find a number of them in the Hong Kong Province too. Filipino performers tend to be the best (with or without Westerners in their bands). They voices are to vibrant. The musicians usually do not read sheet music but you would never know. They are entertainers. Do you like AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Journey, Usher, Elton John, etc.? They can perform it. They sound just like the original artist. How much does it cost? Just the price of a beer and a tip. You will be thoroughly entertained!!! Oh, the "talent" beyond the band tends to be nice looking. But, most of us are focused on the performers in the band. They light it up!!!Check out Kowloon or Hong Kong Island. The Wan Chai area tends to be very popular too. Many of the good hotels do have some live music available too. Jeans will do.

Red Lion @ Holiday Inn: Regular, Friendly, English Pub

by szivhk

Friendly ex-pats go here and the filipino duo who sing here are friendly. You are bound to meet people. It's easy to strike up a conversation. The ex-pats may take you on to other places later if they are in the mood for a big night out. It's a pub.

Alfa: 80s Night

by graeme83

Every Friday night there is an 80s party at a place called Alfa in Sanlitun. We all had an amazing night at this place. All the usual classic 80s music was being played and enjoyed by the mostly ex-pat crowd. There are quite a few different rooms to relax and sit in as well as a dancefloor.FREE entry.

The Big Easy: Some Jazz and Blues

by Onedragon

A sweet , two story restaurant with JAZZ!!!!!If you enjoy Jazz and Blues , check this place out O.K – Cajun and crayfish in central Beijing? If proof were needed of the rapid expansion of the global village it can be found in this authentic Louisiana-style hot spot on Chaoyang Park. Ex-pats looking for a gumbo and jambalaya fix love it, but locals do too, taking seats in the old fashioned American bar area or in the second-floor dining space with its balcony. It’s not quite a Bourbon Street view but it’s close. Music is jazz and blues and a wild once-a-year Mardi Gras party that packs the place out too. And if spicy Cajun food is not your thing, they do fun flirty cocktails. Try the sweet C and creamy Mississippi Dream, containing Baileys and Kahlua. Casual I wore long pants and nice shirt since I didn't really know anything about the place, except that there was jazz and blues.
