The Streets Around The Hotel Jasmine: Exploring Suzhou at Night
Now, bear in mind that when I experienced this it was the first night of the three days of festivities for some holiday. I never really did get a clear explanation of what that holiday was just that it all ended in a big dragon boat race on the third day.Whatever the reason, the streets of Suzhou were full of happy people strolling about having a nice, relaxed evening. There were families out - no groups of annoying teenagers in big groups acting stupid, no one (adult or teen) seemed drunk either - and it was all safe and exciting and fun.The shops were open as were the restaurants, which had sidewalk tables, there was a lot of neon and there were rides for little kids. Two little ones even ran up to me excitedly to practice their English ("Hello! How are you?! What is your name?!") and when I answered them in English they giggled and ran back to their parents.
