Karaoke

by linwei66

Karaoke is very popular in China right now, at least with people in their 30's-40's. Most of my students were around this age so I got pulled in as well. For Karaoke close friends rent a room that is closed off from others and everyone drinks and has a good time. The funny thing is that people who are normally very shy seem to love singing in front of friends at these places. Give it a try, it's quite an interesting experience!

Xi'an Night Market: Night Market Madness

by caslu

For true adventure (not to mention the latest bargains) you have to venture into the night markets. Every city in China has them, but my favorite was in Xi'an. It's non-stop madness, bargaining, and selling from start to finish... I even ventured into some of the very dark back alleys where "secret passwords" got into some home grown stores where top brand names (from 'GUCCI' - or is that 'GUSSI' - to Prada and beyond) were on sale. It's a lot of fun but if you venture into the alleys, please be careful and watch your pockets! Hahahahaha - the only requirement is a fat wallet and plenty of bargaining power.

Crew Talent Show

by geekgrrl

On the third and last night of the cruise, the crew starred in a talent show. Once again I was skeptical, and once again I was surprised. The show was really quite good.It started off with a dragon dance, a Chinese flute performance, a magician, a Chinese face changer, a Kung Fu demonstration by the ship's doctor – Dr. Ni, dances, and a finale.

KASHGAR : NIGHT MARKET

by swesn

At night, the streets around Id Kah Mosque comes alive with food stalls selling a smorgasbord of steaming goat stew with bobbling goats' heads, rings of intestines, shish-kebabs of bits of goats' livers, hearts... chickpeas, noodles, apricots, sweet pastries, etc...A great place to sample the local food and people-watch.

Many Choices: H O N G K O N G

by keeweechic

Lang Kwai Fong (Hong Kong Island)is a big night spot area especially with businessman and Expat. There are many bars, cafes, delis, bistros and restaurants to choose from. Try Mad Dogs - Century Square, 1 D'Aguilar St, or Dublin Jack - Cochrane St, Central. There are also many bars around the Kowloon area, usually filled with tourists and locals alike. Try Ned Kelly's Last Stand - 11A Ashley Rd. Some Place Else - Sheraton Hotel, 20 Nathan Road, Bottoms Up - 14 Hankow Rd or Kangaroo Pub - 35 Haiphong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.Wanchai (HK Island), home of Suzie Wong is also another popular spot. Infamous girlie bars, have given way to a late night party place. Stylish bars are scattered around the throbbing beat of nightclubs Yet existing sauna signs and mama-sans, trying to tempt patrons, gives a glimpse of Wanchai's former fame. Try Carnegie's - Lockhart Road, WanchaiJJ's - Grand Hyatt,1...

Dayan Naxi Musical Orchestra...: Lose yourself in an age old orchestra!

by darthmilmo

Dayan Naxi Musical Orchestra (picture of director Xuan Ke)A visit to Lijiang is not complete unless you visit a show of classical Chinese music played by the Dayan Naxi Music Association. The conductor of the Dayan Naxi Music Association tells interesting anecdotes in Chinese, English, and the local language. Note how short the English translation is compared to the rest. This world-renown Dayan Naxi Musical Orchestra is often on tour so make sure you ask ahead of time for available shows.

You don't need to hit the bars...

by asantetravel

You don't need to hit the bars for night entertainment in China. Chinese people love to take to the streets! At around sunset people gather on the streets doing various activities, including tai-chi, exercise, line dancing, and ballroom dancing. Someone will always invite you to join (especially in Guilin), so you can get up close with the locals. Best of all it is free! Anything goes

Any major city: Roadside shopping

by Tenzin

Don't miss the roadside shoppings that come alive whenever the evening hour strikes. You simply can't go wrong when you buy what locals buy. But do watch out for foodstuff though. You may need a strong stomach for that. Excellent buys are underwears, shoes and clothes. Bargain for all your worth. Don't understand Mandarin? Just punch out the figures on the calculator. Chinese may have used the abacus for 1000s of years but the Arabic numerals is truely the international language. Anything comfortable.
