In the evenings I attended...

by Dick_Loudon

In the evenings I attended banquets almost every day, as I was there on business. The Chinese throw a dinner for your side, and you reciprocate the next evening. I never did get to a night club, and I'm especially sorry I missed the Jazz Band at the Peace Hotel in Shanghai. I was also unable to attend a Chinese Opera, which I do like. Business casual or neat street clothes

by filipdebont

There is some nightly activity close to the seman Hotel (Seman road). Opposite the seman hotel is John Hu's Cafe, this the place to meet for all tourists. You can get information, you can eat a burger, a pizza or a steak (if you are bored eating rice), there is also an Internet connection. And the Chinese beer is very good. The bottles I tasted were all 68 cl, so you get a lot of beer for your money. The local Xinjiang beer was 4 yuan for a bottle and the Usu beer was 5 yuan for a bottle (1US$ = 8 yuan). Cheers

Believe it or not I actually found Guinness here, though not on draught only in bottles. Many of the good restaurants in this area stock Guinness but unfortunatly it's that bottled export stuff.

Try some chinese beer, I recommend Tsing Tao. It is wonderful and at only 3.7% you can drink bucketfulls and not get drunk. Also the chinese don't seem to be big drinkers so you'll more than last the pace!!
