Reading a Chinese Menue...

... without knowing Chinese Characters. When you go "Off the beaten Path" in China you'll find, that many restaurants don't have an English menue. Then this two characters are very helpful. If you order "si" the meat will be shredded. "ding" means, the meat comes in dices. This way you have at least a slight idea of what you order. Without "si" or "ding" the meat you order comes with lots of bones. You still don't know, which kind of meat you get, but you can be sure, that most times you'll get chicken or pork. Sometimes you'll get beef. Don't be afraid, that you get dog-meat by accident. This can only happen, if you order the most expensive food on the menue.
