The Bell Tower is a strategically important building that marks the geographical centre of the ancient capital of Xian. From this important landmark extend East, South, West and North Streets, connecting the Bell Tower to the East, South, West and North Gates of the City Wall. It was built in 1384 during the early Ming Dynasty and is one of the grandest of its kind in China. The Bell Tower also contains several large bronze-cast bells from the Tang Dynasty. The tower base is square and it covers an area of 1,377 square meters. The tower is a brick and timber structure and close to 40 meters high. The bell standing outside, is a replica of the original Tang dynasty bell which can be seen in the Forest of Stele Museum.
On the second floor, a plaque set in the west wall records the relocation of the tower in 1582. When it was first built it stood near the Drum Tower on the central axis of the city. As the city grew, however, the geographical centre changed. Therefore, in 1582, the Tower was moved 1,000 meters east of the original site.
Open: 8am-10pm. Admission: RMB40 (which also includes the Drum Tower).

Just like the Drum Tower, the Bell tower is situated in the heart of the city. Located at the main entrance to the Muslim Quarter, you should still use the pedestrian tunnel that will take you under the drum tower and to the ticket office that is located in this tunnel.
As mentioned before, you can purchase a single entry into both the drum tower and the bell tower for approx. 50 Yuan each or you can purchase a double entry pass for 70 Yuan.
The wooden Bell Tower, like the Drum tower, is a traditional Chinese building that houses bells…funny that!
You can enjoy the ringing of the bells daily at:
9:00
10:30
11:00
15:00
16:00 and
17:00

This was cool, totally unexpected!! We went into the tower and upstairs there were chairs being set out. We sat down and soon enough we were joined with heaps of other people, then the dancers and musicians came onto the stage - they were brilliant!!
Ah the colours, the music - superb.

So if you're visiting the Drum tower you may as well visit the Bell tower too! Both are very similar from outside, but inside they are very different. You get great views of the city from a height as well : gardens, streets, traffic etc
Oh and be sure to take note of all the small details such as the doors and handles - they're special.

There are two visible towers inside the city walls of Xi'an. The Drum Tower is great to walk around and inside. There's a museum inside too (I hope I'm not confusing this with the Bell Tower :-) and of course all of the drums to see at the base of the tower.
The fee is minimal to enter and it's worth it. The architecture alone on the tower is amazing.

The Bell Tower, is at the heart of Xian , where criss-cross the streets of the four cardinal points
It is a wooden structure with dark green tiles and inside there was a large bell that marked the hours
Drum Tower is only a few steps away and it is also another traditional Chinese building , that of course it had also a big drum
They are impressive , both in the day and in the night, when light up , for the contrast they have with the modern and noisy city

As the symbol of Xi'an, the Bell Tower stands at the real centre of the city. It was built in 1384.
The view of the city can be seen on the second floor.
On the Bell Tower, tourists can enjoy the performance of playing bells. The timetable is: 9:00, 10:30, 11:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00. Besides, there are exhibits of traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, porcelain and folk arts.
In the past, the bell was sounded during the daytime to announce the time and the dark drum was struck to announce the time at night. Now the custom has made a return so the bell and the drums are sounded four times per day at 9:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00.
The price of the ticket is about 50 RMB.

Address: The juncture of South, East, North, West Street
The Bell Tower was originally built in 1384, but later moved to its present location.
There is a large bell, which visitors are allowed to ring. Inside are regular musical performances (we just missed a performance, though there were two musicians playing the same traditional instruments we had seen in the Shaanxi Museum and at the Tang Dynasty show – one of them was playing an instrument that resembled birdsong, the other, in direct competition, was playing something that sounded incredibly like Auld Lang Syne).
Carved panels on the exterior show scenes from history.
The Tower gives good views over the city.
It is possible to buy a combined ticket with the nearby Drum Tower.

The Drum Tower is very close, and similar in appearance to, the Bell Tower. You can buy a combined ticket to both.
The Drum Tower has (as its name suggests) a number of drums - the inside is a small museum of different kinds of drum.
Like the Bell Tower, it is also interesting for its architecture and views over the city.
