Taxi driver will not take you if the place that you will go is not far (for their thinking), so my friends and I had to drag all luggages from Bell tower to a hotel where is about 2-3 km from Bell tower.

Taxi driver doesn't want to make a U-turn. We have to walk across the street, then catch another taxi.

If it's traffic jam, driver will ask you to go out and point the way to the place.

I was wet, cold, tired and hungry. When I arrived in Xi'An the taxi said 20 Yuan!!!!!!!!!

    It usually costs 6.

Unique Suggestions: Get the hotel to call the taxi for you to ensure that they won't rip you off if you decide to go anywhere.....

Fun Alternatives: Um.......take the local bus....

Taking a cab in Xian is different from taking one in Shanghai or Chengdu etc. In Xian, the cab drivers do not like to take normal rides if they know you are a tourist. They prefer you to book them for a day. Some are ok if you politely decline, while some will have a total change in their attitude. Taking a cab in the morning around the train station (apart from the taxi stand) is virtually impossible. Maybe it's our luck...haha

No taxis between 3pm and 4pm

You'll be told and see signs at the hostels that there are no taxis between 3 to 4pm as this is the changeover for drivers - their dinner breaks. So if you need to catch a train, flight etc you need to go super early apparently. Well we found a taxi at 3.30pm and although it was a little difficult to find out - with our stunning blonde daughter on the corner flagging them down, how could they resist = we got a taxi to take us to the train station on time : )

Taxi is an efficient transportation, however, please deal with the driver all the condition, the price, what locations to be included, any additional charges such as highway fee and gasoline. It is wise to state clearly everything before starting the journey or you may be in regret.
