Luigi's often has great music, candlelight, and just a great atmosphere to it in general. Often you can hear Spanish music, Oldies, and all sorts of music playing, and if you want to hear something, just bring it. The accomodations (as far as bathroom etc) may not be the best, but the hospitality and food make up for it in the long run. There is always someone there who speaks really good English, and all else fails the menus speak for themselves. This is by far the best pizza I have had in china, and I have eaten it at a lot of differnet places.
Favorite Dish: The pizza at Luigi's is cooked to order in a stove oven. I have had probably all of the pizza here. I eat a lot of the vege pizza, I mean where else can you get brocolli and corn on a pizza??? On certain days Luigi has lasagne and other italian favorites as well. The beer is cheap, there is usually an ample supply of vodka, but if you dont drink there is usually Sprite and Coke on hand as well.

In a compound with, well, sea view, there are several buildings and facilities that belong to Qingdao Sea View Garden Hotel. In the main building with the reception facilities, there is a restaurant and attached banquet rooms that hails the best from the entire compounds' restaurants.
Favorite Dish: This food was excellent!
Pigged out there on all sorts of Shandong sea food.
Very, very good shark fin soup
Exquisitely done marinated cubes of beef with asparagus.
There was also a good selection of wines; I bought and took home one rather expensive red cabernet sauvignon from Shandong which is just superb. Otherwise, in Qingdao and when there is much toasting, go for the weaker strategic choice, Tsingtao beer...

If you have a chance to sample the best of Shangri-La's hotel kitchens, do it!
The food is fantastic, and served in great style without being "pushy" or overdoing it, so you are entirely comfortable during the seanse.
Favorite Dish: I had a complete set banquet menu (see photo), and most of the dishes served were great. I liked especially a sea food soup speciality with pastry fluff on top, and also the abalone, both aparently Shandong specialities.

My favorite restaurant was a little dive right by our hotel and near the train station. We went there for breakfast every day and they would always make us new treats to try, from porriage to varations on some of the fried breakfast pastries. Then they would sit there and watch us eat and make sure everything was to our liking. They got a big kick out of the fact that my friend ordered Coke with breakfast. :-)

One of the fine street treats in Qingdao is natural yoghurt in the ceramic jar bought in the old town.
