Pick Pocketing---
i have lived in QingDao for 3 years.
Just be careful of your belongings on the streets.
Pick Pocket's don't work alone, usually have partners.. etc.
I watched a pickpocket steal a woman's cellphone, and
when i went over to tell her, the pickpocket's partners, came up to me
and threatened me. It was not a good experience.
Oh, and be careful on the public buses too (if you're planning to ride these..).
TAXIS---
This is a huge problem that i used to face
and it pisses me off sooo much when they do this...
Taxi drivers trick us by handing us fake money.
and you wouldnt be able to tell,
unless you know the feel of fake money and the look of it.
I remember my friend who was handed a fake 50 rmb.

When staying in Qingdao, it is wise not to drink tap water in any form, unless if was been sterilised by boiling or by using purification tablets. Tap water in China is known to contain bacteria that can cause varying degrees of sickness and diarrhoea. Also avoid ice cubs, any drinks that may have been watered down, and uncooked fruit and vegetable dishes.

Taking a taxi in Quingdao and other places in China might be an adventure by itself. Drivers will mostly not speak anything than their mothertongue and they will also not always be able to read an ordinary town-map.
Even when you have a sheet of paper showing the port-adress of your ship in chinese letters it could be that the drivers dont know where they should go to.
A lady at my table in the ship told me that they were driving around for 1,5 hour before the driver found the port accidentally, simply because in the car-radio there was a broadcasting about a german ship with an interview by the captain and that was the moment, when the driver got the idea where to go.
1,5 hours of drivingtime instead of 20 minutes might get you into problems, when heading back to the ship in the last moment !!!

I took a cab from the Shangri-la hotel to the Huiquan Dynasty Hotel. It is a very short distance, and I suppose that it would cost about 5rmb or less. Anyway, taxi driver charged me 10 rmb and when I asked for a bill, he was pretending that he do not understand what I was asking for. Usually, taxi drivers in Qingdao give you a bill/receipt without a problem, but there are exceptions.

You will see lots of seafood stands around Qingdao, and it is tempting to try some seafood, like grilled fish or squid. Sometimes you can get pretty bad diarrhea from eating the seafood, because unlike the locals, your stomach can't handle it. And don't try any seafood raw if it is available!

Especially when you exit a taxi. I lost 2 phones because I left them in the taxi when I got out.
Chances of retrieving your phone = 0.
So always check to make sure you have your phone with you when you get out of a taxi.

Beware that the water quality in Qingdao's beaches may not be exactly the best at times.
