 | Pudong Restaurants | Tips 1 - 9 of 9 | | This is an enjoyable restaurant and bar. Nice atmosphere, REAL German beer. I usually go just for the beer and get snacks like fries and pretzels. The food is not great value for money, but the beer is - ESPECIALLY if you for the happy hour from 4-7pm. Beers are half price then, so you can get 1 leter like I'm enjoying in the picture for RMB 58 (regular price RMB 115). They have many Chinese and Filipino waitresses (the Filipinas all speak excellent English, and the Chinese staff speak English with a filipine accent! very funny). The best part of the Paulaner in Pudong is that it is right on the Huangpu river. You can watch the boats go by and see the Bund/Puxi. This is one of the great places to go for beer and food in Shanghai.
The German wheat beer, 1L 115 rmb, 0.5 L 68 rmb, 0.3 L, don't know the price coz who wants to drink only 0.3L?!! These prices are all 1/2 off if you drink from 4-7pm. Leave a Comment Theme: German/AustrianPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Across the street from the Shangri-la hotel. Paulaner overlooks the Huangpu river, *great* view of Puxi

This is the best place I know of for comfort food in Shanghai, and they have a branch in Pudong! The menu includes all the diner favorites: all day breakfasts, burgers, grilled cheese, ice cream and pies, and lots of other items like taco salad, petc. Entrees range between RMB 35-60. They bring you free popcorn too :). THEY SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH HERE - MANAGER IS WESTERN (American?). They also have specials (e.g. I think on Tuesdays teachers get 50% off, there are promotions on other days too). See the restaurant website for directions and bilingual menu. There are not really many or any Chinese dishes on the menu, so this place is all about the laowai.
America is a place where low culture is high culture, and what remains of high culture aspires to the credibility of the gutter. Despite the claims of Northern California's haughty chefs, true American haute cuisine is cooked on griddles where eggs share space with hamburgers and everything makes way for the hashbrowns. The menu is extensive. It's safe to stay with the burgers and chili cheese fries. One of my favorite dishes is the Santa Ana wrap. The Yi Cafe has a great ambiance and food selections from all over the world (e.g. seafood, southeast Asian, Western, Indian, and of course Chinese). There is a huge variety and the food quality is exquisite. The buffet compares with other 5-star buffets in Shanghai like the Westin and Portman buffets, and I think may be slightly better. At about RMB300/head (USD35+), it is not cheap, but it is an enjoyable experience if you have time to spend there eating! Drinks are extra but there is a *huge* desert selection which is included. HOURS: Buffet: Breakfast: 6 am - 10:30 am Lunch: 11:30 am - 2:30 pm Dinner: 5:30 pm - 10:30 pm A la Carte: Breakfast: 6 am - 11:30 am All day: 11:30 noon - 1 am

This is a good place to go if you want a sandwhich, pasta or salad. Most entrees are about 40 RMB. They also have smoothies and deserts. The cheesecake is quite good. Because it's a cafe, the setting is laid back and relaxing. You can stop in just for a drink or smoothie, or for a full meal. Zoe's is located inside the superbrand mall, so you can combine eating here with shopping. My Pudong, Shanghai page has more restaurant and other tips which I hope will be useful to you if you are visiting Shanghai, and especially if you are in Pudong (for the Jinmao Tower, Pearl Tower, maglev, etc.)
Cheesecake is very good. chicken caesar salad is large and not bad. pizza is average but at least it's not dry like pizza hut in China is. Chinese Name: "Wang pin tai su niu pai" (‰¤•i‘ä‘Y‹?”r). (It does not appear to have an English name, the English name above is my translation) Set dinner menu for Y188, includes bread, choice of appetizer (try the braised mushrooms or shrip and asparagus), choice of soup (I had the beef and onion soup tonight -- very good), main course (the specialty is a huge lump of tender beef steak (you can cut it with a butter knife) on the bone). The main course selections also feature codfish (my friends enjoyed it), pork chop, and others. Great desert selections and drink selections at the end (the rose tea is presented very nicely; there is a tea or coffee with a raw egg on top (!). I had the cold coffee, which was both good and presented nicely (with dry ice and a rose!). *Service is good, which cannot always be said for China * English and Chinese menu * This is apparently a Taiwanese restaurant originally (11 restaurants in Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung, Tainan, etc.) 2 restaurants in Shanghai, and soon opening in Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou. * Y188 +10% service charge. Alcohol extra
I had the "Taiwanese Style Beefsteak" which was a very good piece of meat, and HUGE. They also have ribeye steak, pork chops, and cod fish, and a couple others. If you are not a big person or do not have a huge appetite (for meat), you might want to go with the fish or something else. You can't go wrong with whatever you order. Itoya has at least 10 stores scattered around Shanghai, but this is the only one I know of in Pudong. If you're in the mood for Japanese, you should try this place after a visit to the Jinmao Tower or Pearl Tower. The food is authentic and presented nicely. Set meals include desert and coffee or tea after the meal. Watch out for the lunchtime rush. There are not many places to eat around the Jinmao building, so Itoya fills up during lunch.

This is a good place to go for authentic and upscale Shanghaiese food. There are a lot of exotic items on the menu (from a Western's standpoint), i.e. you can order one chicken's foot for each diner, and everyone will have it served in gravy on a full sized plate. This might not sound appetizing, but it is a delicacy in China, and it is fun to try (it tastes good but is hard to get used to if you haven't grown up on them!). Of course there are plenty of other standard and delicious dishes. If you want to try authentic Shanghaiese food I would recommend Noble. It is pricier but more authentic than many of the low-end "Shanghaiese food" places that you find around the Bund and other tourist areas.

Paradise Garden is located on the 6th (top) floor of the J-Life Building, which is an annex to the Jinmao Tower. This is a Dim Sum place There are private rooms for group dining, and tables in the open atrium area for groups of 1-6 people. The food is of very good quality and they have a good selection. When I go with my colleagues for lunch we usually pay between RMB60-90 per head.

If you are visiting the Jinmao Tower and hungry, you may want to try one of the various restaurants on the "B1" level. One section is a Chinese cafeteria style where you select your meats and veggies from among various choices. The bowls/containers are color coded to indicate price (but note that they are all just shads of grey, so you have to look very carefully to figure out which color your selection is!). The other section serves up various Chinese and Western dishes. You can get pasta, burgers, frieds, sandwhiches, hot dogs, noodles and other favorites. Total price per meal is between RMB20-30. It's not culinary excellence, but it works. If this style meal doesn't work for you, check out my other Pudong restaurant tips. Many of the feature restaurants are also near the Jinmao Tower.
