Xintiandi (literally "New Heaven and Earth") is an area just south of Huaihai Central Road, smack in the middle of Puxi, containing renovated Shanghai shikumen houses. These are now occupied by trendy bars, restaurants and shops, and the area is now a top nightspot for the Shanghainese and tourists alike. There are numerous fashionable drinking and eating places here - you can wander around and take your pick (though at weekends, the place can be v crowded). Bar-wise, I liked T8 and TMSK, but there are loads to choose from!

Great place for vodka based cocktails with quite an extensive menu. I particularly liked the iced cappucinno cocktail. The real draw of the place is Asia's first Ice-Bar which is just a small part of the whole bar/restaurant. For about 140RMB you get to have one drink and wear a fake-fur-lined poncho to help brave the -5C room. Everything in the room is carved out of ice (except the floor and ceiling), including the tumblers you drink from. It's somewhat expensive but is worth one visit to see the Harbin ice-carvers work.

Many tourists only see The Bund during the day. However, for a truly remarkable view, take the underground subway or a taxi over to Pu Dong Waterfront at night, and view The Bund across the Huang Pu River. It is perfect for a romantic spot or for a family to huddle together and view the lights.

Hengshan Road in Shanghai is only 2 km.long, but on both of its sides are several dozens of big and small amusement facilities. It is, therefore, known as a street of leisurely enjoyment. The street is an avenue with European atmosphere. There are luxuriant French planes on both sidewalks and many buildings of European-style architecture of the ‘20s and ‘30s. In the evening, many well-dressed people and young people in fashionable clothing come here to take a walk, play chess or cards in the tea club, have a drink in the bar , while listening to music spend some time in the bowling room or discotheque, enjoying themselves freely.

The Manhattan Bar has been a fixture in Pu Xi for years. On weekend nights it's completely packed with partiers drinking, socializing and dancing to the dj's mix. On weeknights there tends to be a decent crowd of expats. Malone's, a bar/restaraunt around the corner, also has a good crowd as well as western food.

Fantasic basement club in Shanghai, if this place was anywhere in the UK it would be the place to be! Fantastic decor, totally amazingly polite staff that can speak good english. This club has soem big dj's playing house and the entry price is extremely reasonably only 50rmb and i got a free drink with that. Music fantastic, drink prices very reasonably, very clean club, safe enviroment and most of all the atmosphere was awesome!

Shanghai has all different kinds of clubs that you can find in the other part of the world. If Fast beat is what you want, Armani at Panyu Road is your choice. Small west coast like bar, Tongren Road is the place you should go. For variaties or some &(*&( stuff, South Maoming Road is the deal. Watch out for hookers if you are not actually lookin' for one. Go and enjoy your fancy nightlife in Shanghai.

Me and my sis just randomly picked this club from our guide book. I think it is located in a hotel. They were playing primarily hip hop. Most of the people in the club were foreigners. We had to pay to get in but they had an open bar so it was worth it. Don't know if it is the best club out there but I got buzzed and had a good time.

While chatting and joking with the girls who approach you on this street is good fun, just be aware its a big rip-off. A couple of my pals were whisked off to a nearby bar and after a couple of rounds of drinks and a few nibbles, the bill came to 2,000RMB with nothing much more than a grope to show for it. So, as long as you know the ropes, its ok!
