 | Shanghai Restaurants | Tips 51 - 60 of 410 | | This was quite an interesting place for an expensive cup of tea! Beautiful grounds, Pretty touristy! At the time I visited there were so many people that it was hard to walk around.I mostly was just checking it out. I didn't even have a cup of tea here! The building is beautiful though. There are many other tea houses located in the same area in the Yu Gardens. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalComparison: more expensive than average

This is a restaurant inside Mei Long Zhen Shopping Plaza that serves pack-punches Sichuan (Szechuan) cuisine. The decor is typical simple restaurant, not too much fanfare, but it is neat, orderly and bright. There are seats in normal eating wooden tables and chairs and there are also seats with sofas by the side of the walls.
- The "Kou Shui Ji" or "Saliva Dripping Chicken" - The "Ya Qian Niu Rou" or "Toothpick Beef Slices" Extremely spicy dishes that pack punches. Great stuff!! Ye Olde Station (Shanghai Lao Zhan) is situated in an old villa in Xujiahui. The interior has been preserved with original fixtures, and seating is arranged in the many rooms of the villa, with a main dining room and several private rooms. Seating is also available in a train carriage located in the garden of the villa - this was the carriage originally used by Song Qingling, wife of the founder of the Republic of China, for travels throughout the country. The food served is traditional Shanghainese - and excellent! The menu is quite exhaustive and every sort of Shanghainese dishes seems to be available. As it is the norm with Shanghainese cuisine, cold dishes are particularly strong. Prices are reasonable, and there is a minimum charge if you book a private room (varies depending on size). Reservation is recommended.
The classic Shanghainese dishes, though simple, are the best. I don't get a clue why this place is called Paul's Restaurant??? The front door is so tiny to tell that it is like a small place serving some good local food. However, once you are led by the waiter inside, you suddenly feel surprised how big inside where even has two floors. The restaurant is full of local people. Nowadays in every corner of Shanghai, you can find it's getting occupied by foreigners whom have exquisite taste of food. Surprisingly, we didn't notice any here. Judging by this phenomena, we conclude it must serve some real good local food, haha - even Shanghai is so westernized, deep inside, you find the world has not been globalized ;-) The food is quite tasty even I still choose some vegetarian food. But my friend enjoys a good meal since he also wants add on his web with some good restaurant tips, check his web - www.shanghai-eats.com.

When you enter this restaurant, it will not be apparent immediately that it is a Chinese restaurant. The decor is somewhat Mediterranean. The menu consists mainly of Shanghainese dishes although there is also a selection of Cantonese dishes. This restaurant is a favourite among the locals and tourists alike. Unlike most Chinese restaurants in Shanghai, this restaurant has English translation in the menu with colour photos of the dishes.
Try the crispy skin pigeon. It is a delicacy - the skin is grilled and crispy. Another typical Shanghai dish is the Shanghainese steamed white chicken - it is a favourite speciality among the Shanghainese. The 2 Starbucks I liked in Shanghai were : the one at the Ritz Carlton because the caramel bread pudding is always fresh and they warm it up, plus it is intimate and lots of interesting people...and a wonderful waterfall area to sit in. ; the second one is in the French Quarter, next to a small park where some older people gather and sometimes you may watch them do T'ai Chi, and , again, the bread pudding is there! (can't get it in the States)...and there are two levels, with the second one very comfortable and cozy. ..and some of the staff are very friendly and helpful...a sweet feeling place.
The fabulous caramel bread/custard pudding, especially when it is warmed-up....I could live on it. . ...delicious, perfect consistency, healthy and filling for a good price. The coffee at the one in the French Quarter is stronger than most Starbucks , so the taste is much, much better. Around the world there are Irish pubs. It's like a theme....the Dublin McDonalds, as Irish as Boston St Patricks Day bright green beer. Wherever a bloke can find a set of old Guinness posters and get hold of imported Kilkenny, an Irish pub springs up. In most cases, the tack and Irishness is so crass that it says "this is not how an Irish pub looks" or "This is an Irish Theme Park". The Blarney Stone is a bit different. Sure (to be sure?) there are plenty of Guinness and Kilkenny adverts, lots of "this is Ireland" kitsch. But this is also a place where you see grumpy old bastards in flat caps sullenly mulling over the days events over a pint. This is local Irish lads, on the up or on the down, playing cards and eying up strangers as they come in from the cold. The floor is grubby, the seats ridiculously overholstered. A iPod plays out all kinds of junk through a huge sound system. A sad looking man sets up his guitar. The landlord sits with his mates near the TV, looking the unhappiest man on the planet. You could have walked off the streets of Dundalk on a wet, windy November night and into a local. The Blarney Stone is a very different overseas Irish pub: it looks, feels and is the real thing. You want service or cherries on a stick in a cocktail, go elsewhere: this is a piece of Ireland dug up and set down in Shanghai. Just the place for a few pints, read the paper and muttering darkly about why doesn't RTE have a worldwide TV news service (ENN?).
The steak and kidney pie. Oh yes. Definitely. Vast quantities of gravy in a huge bowl. Expect ten and twenty blackbirds in this one. Leave a Comment Theme: Pub/BreweryPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 5 Dongping LuPhone: 6415 7496

You may not be able to find this unmarked entrance and a bamboo trees passageway that lead you to the entrance of Shintori. We chance upon this restaurant while trying to look for Shintori Fusion Restaurant. But food lovers still flock to Shintori Japanese Restaurant for their green tea tiramisu. This place has a warehouse feeling. Nearly every seat in the two-story restaurant offers a view of the chefs at work in a first-floor area that looks more like a grand stage than an open kitchen.

Atanu Bar and Restaurant is located on the upper floors of the historic 1907 Signal Tower, towards the southern end of the Bund. It is located above the modest Bund Museum which occupies the ground floor of the building and through which you must pass to reach Atanu. A wooden spiral staircase leads up from the museum to a cosy little bar and dining area. I had a quick look at the food menu and it included a variety of meat dishes (beef, lamb, pork…) and typical “pub food” (soups, salads, steaks, seafood, desserts), but prices were pretty high by Shanghai standards. I had no intention of eating there – I was there with the sole intention of enjoying a drink on the rooftop terrace and taking panoramic photographs of the Bund, the Huangpu River and the impressive Pudong skyline. The Atanu bar is a great place from which to do this. So, I ordered a bottle of Tsingtao beer (expensively priced at 40 Yuan / 3.50 GBP for a small 296ml bottle) from the bar and made my way up another flight of stairs to the rooftop. The bar was practically empty on the afternoon that I visited (it’s busier by night), so I sat at one of the wooden tables overlooking the Bund, snapped lots of photos of the impressive views and enjoyed my cold beer in the sun. Atanu offers an extensive and varied drinks menu, ranging from soft drinks, fruit juices, tea and coffee to spirits, cocktails and wines. As well as bottled Tsingtao beer, you will find Guinness and Carlsberg on draught. Just be warned that prices are expensive right across the menu – you’re paying for the great views…and they are worth it! More info can be found HERE. Atanu Bar and Restaurant’s rooftop terrace offers unbeatable views of the Bund and the Pudong skyline. Food and drinks are very costly by Shanghai standards, but a one-off visit to admire the views is highly recommended! "Lynn serves up a modern version of sultry, pre revolution Shanghai. This gem of an eatery successfully combines competent cuisine, delectably plush quarters, and efficient service at non-signature prices" That is how one write up in an expat rag in Shanghai goes. I mostly agree, and would say it's a good place if you are a foreigner who wants to try Shanghainese food but do not consider yoruself ultra adventurous. That's not to say they don't have some exotic things, but they also have some Chinese style "meat and potato" type dishes to fill you up too. The restaurant is laid out nicely, if not "delectably plush", but the wait staff, while professional and curteous, is very very slow. Lunch on a weekday can push 2 hours if you're with a group. It's like they've build a restaurant that can seat 200 people but a kitchen that can only cook for 30. Also have had situations where main course dishes don't arrive until an hour after ordering (it's Chinese style, so you get some main courses, but then when you think you're done and stuffed, a huge plate of ribs come out). On the other hand, if you're not in a hurry and don't mind waiting a bit, this might be your place.
great selection of fresh juices. Most of them are priced at RMB 12, which is a bargain in a city where other places will ask 30-50 RMB for a juice or smoothie.
