 | | | | Lynn, Modern Shanghai Cuisine: Fusion Shanghai-Chinese food | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
"Lynn serves up a modern version of sultry, pre revolution Shanghai. This gem of an eatery successfully combines competent cuisine, delectably plush quarters, and efficient service at non-signature prices" That is how one write up in an expat rag in Shanghai goes. I mostly agree, and would say it's a good place if you are a foreigner who wants to try Shanghainese food but do not consider yoruself ultra adventurous. That's not to say they don't have some exotic things, but they also have some Chinese style "meat and potato" type dishes to fill you up too. The restaurant is laid out nicely, if not "delectably plush", but the wait staff, while professional and curteous, is very very slow. Lunch on a weekday can push 2 hours if you're with a group. It's like they've build a restaurant that can seat 200 people but a kitchen that can only cook for 30. Also have had situations where main course dishes don't arrive until an hour after ordering (it's Chinese style, so you get some main courses, but then when you think you're done and stuffed, a huge plate of ribs come out). On the other hand, if you're not in a hurry and don't mind waiting a bit, this might be your place.
great selection of fresh juices. Most of them are priced at RMB 12, which is a bargain in a city where other places will ask 30-50 RMB for a juice or smoothie. | | | | TMSK: "Create art, good for the human heart" | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The name TMSK means TouMingSiKao, or "transparent thinking". It's designed by Loretta Yang Hui-shan, one of the founders of chinese contemporary glass art. that's a special kind of glass, named "liuli" (glazed glass), near the restaurant there is a small shop where you can buy many "liuli" things...glasses, chandeliers, everything is quite expensive, but it's worth just to have a look at it...such beauty! in dining area is a unique ceiling made from thousands of color discs. there is also TMSK band performing there, they play kind of fusion chinese traditional music, we liked it so much...later i knew they are quite popular and people searching for their cd's, but it doesnt exist:( Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: US$41 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Unit 2, Lane 181, 11 Taicang Lu, XintiandiPhone: 63262227Website: www.tmsk.com

 | | | | Vighur Restaurant: Halal Food | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This is the best halal restaurant that I went during my visit to Shanghai. After few halal places / restaurants tried, I rank this restaurant on top of my list. Dishes that they serve are Vighur(Uygur) foods. Vighur originated from Xin Jiang province and they are muslim. They looks differently from normal Chinese people. A bit mixtures of Chinese, Pakistan, Mongolian, Uzbekistan & Tibet. The setup in the restaurant is very presentable, spacious and excellent decorations. They even held a traditional dancing and singing shows during dinner. During their show, they invited guest to participate in dancing their traditional dance. I do not miss the oppurtunity once the dancer invited me to dance, well I am the first that was being invited. After that, all guest went to dance with the dancers. Wow, what a great experience it was. The foods taste great and very tasteful. We only discovered this restaurant on our 4th day in Shanghai. After we had our good lunch here, we decided to had dinner also in this restaurant. 15 of us took almost 10 different dishes with large quantity & different beverages and the price is RMB863.00.
BBQ Mutton on Stick (I guess they have a specific menu name for this dish) is the most tasteful dish offered here in this restaurant. On that day itself, I took almost 20 sticks of this dish. See the uploaded picture to recognize this dish.
