Atanu Bar and Restaurant is located on the upper floors of the historic 1907 Signal Tower, towards the southern end of the Bund. It is located above the modest Bund Museum which occupies the ground floor of the building and through which you must pass to reach Atanu.
A wooden spiral staircase leads up from the museum to a cosy little bar and dining area. I had a quick look at the food menu and it included a variety of meat dishes (beef, lamb, pork…) and typical “pub food” (soups, salads, steaks, seafood, desserts), but prices were pretty high by Shanghai standards.
I had no intention of eating there – I was there with the sole intention of enjoying a drink on the rooftop terrace and taking panoramic photographs of the Bund, the Huangpu River and the impressive Pudong skyline. The Atanu bar is a great place from which to do this.
So, I ordered a bottle of Tsingtao beer (expensively priced at 40 Yuan / 3.50 GBP for a small 296ml bottle) from the bar and made my way up another flight of stairs to the rooftop. The bar was practically empty on the afternoon that I visited (it’s busier by night), so I sat at one of the wooden tables overlooking the Bund, snapped lots of photos of the impressive views and enjoyed my cold beer in the sun.
Atanu offers an extensive and varied drinks menu, ranging from soft drinks, fruit juices, tea and coffee to spirits, cocktails and wines. As well as bottled Tsingtao beer, you will find Guinness and Carlsberg on draught. Just be warned that prices are expensive right across the menu – you’re paying for the great views…and they are worth it!
More info can be found HERE.
Atanu Bar and Restaurant’s rooftop terrace offers unbeatable views of the Bund and the Pudong skyline. Food and drinks are very costly by Shanghai standards, but a one-off visit to admire the views is highly recommended!

Around the world there are Irish pubs. It's like a theme....the Dublin McDonalds, as Irish as Boston St Patricks Day bright green beer. Wherever a bloke can find a set of old Guinness posters and get hold of imported Kilkenny, an Irish pub springs up.
In most cases, the tack and Irishness is so crass that it says "this is not how an Irish pub looks" or "This is an Irish Theme Park".
The Blarney Stone is a bit different. Sure (to be sure?) there are plenty of Guinness and Kilkenny adverts, lots of "this is Ireland" kitsch. But this is also a place where you see grumpy old bastards in flat caps sullenly mulling over the days events over a pint. This is local Irish lads, on the up or on the down, playing cards and eying up strangers as they come in from the cold. The floor is grubby, the seats ridiculously overholstered. A iPod plays out all kinds of junk through a huge sound system.
A sad looking man sets up his guitar. The landlord sits with his mates near the TV, looking the unhappiest man on the planet.
You could have walked off the streets of Dundalk on a wet, windy November night and into a local. The Blarney Stone is a very different overseas Irish pub: it looks, feels and is the real thing.
You want service or cherries on a stick in a cocktail, go elsewhere: this is a piece of Ireland dug up and set down in Shanghai. Just the place for a few pints, read the paper and muttering darkly about why doesn't RTE have a worldwide TV news service (ENN?).
Favorite Dish: The steak and kidney pie. Oh yes. Definitely. Vast quantities of gravy in a huge bowl. Expect ten and twenty blackbirds in this one.

This restaurant offers very good Uigurian food from Xing Jiang. If you don't think you can get used to Chinese food, perhaps you can start from Uigurian food first because it has some similarities to western food.

When we were on Da gu Road shopping for dvd's we came across two of the best finds in Shanghai. No. 1 was a Dragonfly Health Retreat, same as the one we had used many times in Beijing. No. 2 was Papa Mario's Pizzeria. I can honestly say that it is the best Pizza I have ever tasted - it was cooked to perfection. And Papa Mario was rather chuffed that we liked his pizza so much, he then insisted on a photo shoot!
Tracy and I shared the bill which came to just under 100rmb including drinks = about $8AUD each.
Favorite Dish: We ate a large ham and mushroom pizza called "Proscuito de funghi" and it was just perfect, with a crisp base and just the right amount of toppings. Well done - Papa Mario!

DO NOT eat here! Its as simple as that! One day after a hectic mornings retail therapy, we just felt like some western food and we were straving. So, we saw this sign to a Pizza Buffet Restaurant and rolled on in. Price was 43rmb = about $8AUD for all you could eat and drink, so it seemed like a good deal.
However ... the foot was pretty rot, most of it didnt have names on it in english, only in Chinese, so we had no idea what we were eating, and most of it tasted like crap. The pizza they were serviing was possibly the worst pizza I have ever tasted.
So .... do yourself a favour, and do not eat here. I did bring home their card with their details, but I must have thrown it out.
REMEMBER - ORIGUS BUFFET - DO NOT GO THERE!!!

At the Da Fu Hao Restaurant or Shanghai Multimillionaire Restaurant we had a large private room upstairs with two tables to accommodate everyone. This restauraunt would be another one of the best Shanghai has to offer for the more traditional cuisine and atmosphere that makes being in Shanghai so very very special! With live fish tanks downstairs for your selection of fresh seafood and plenty of lounges on the different levels for relaxing this has to be a fantastic night out!!
Favorite Dish: Well this is a little difficult as just after tucking into a few of the very deliciously tasty pork, crab and duck dish's which were supberb! the " BINGE " drinking (and NZ Steinlager! ) commenced, one by one all of the Auntey's (7) lined me up, followed by all the Uncle's and not to let the New Zealand side down lost count of just how many uncle's Shirley has? Mama is one off ten......OMG!!!!!
We have been back to this restaurant in 2010 and Rabbit has enjoyed the food he did not eat on the above visit and highly recommends eating here now...lol.....!!!!

On our first visit across the river to the Xinyang Markets we came across this quaint pizza cafe and stopped by for lunch - and it was simply scrumptious! We order a serve of garlic bread and a 10" deluxe feast pizza. Tracy of course had her Tsingtao and I had free water. The total bill came to only 93rmb! This cafe is underground, on the same level as the Xinyang Markets (which were by the way the best value markets we came across in Shanghai!)

Traditional local food, every dish is so fresh, bursting with big flavours, the service is not rushed with nice polite waitresses and very pleasant surroundings. At the end of lunch we could not eat another thing!
Favorite Dish: The beef was just so nice, but wait the pork balls were something else, very very tastey and those live prawns were just so so juicy and fresh, all served up with Steinlager!!!...nice...
