We flew from Xi'an to Shanghai with Shanghai Airlines for about 2 hours or so. I don't know what happened to the pilot but the landing was awful. The landing gear hit the ground so hard that I'm sure it damaged. The service on board was good.
Pudong Airport is located about one hour from downtown but sometimes traffic is heavy. And you can take the train to downtown; I didn't because our tour bus was already waiting for us.

The airport in Shanghai is huge and super modern. It is located about an hour east of downtown , depending on traffic. The international arrivals hall has , hotel shuttles , money exchange and ATMs. There is also a Tourist info desk.
Remember when you leave howver there are no bars or restaurants once you go through security!
Taxis should cost no more than $10.00 into the city.

Many people feel its unsafe in booking air-tickets in China cause lots of people cheat money of others or do a bad-quality service. Several travellers from overseas in Shanghai complained that while chatting with me. Acctually in China, the booking is different from overseas especially in Europe.
I would like to recommend a good travel&air-ticket agency called JUNSU for you. JUNSU locates in Suite A, Floor 16, Chaoyangmen center, Building 567, Zhonghua Road, Huangpu district, Shanghai, China. It won a good fame through its perfect operation level, perfect service and best credit standing.
If you can not speak Chinese well, don't worry about that, just call, JUNSU has a expert-translator and some of its ticket-seller can speak English well.
And it can send you the ticket for free.

China Eastern Airline has the strangest idea of service I have ever seen. Such as telling you the flight time to Shanghai then a few minutes later delaying your flight by an hour blaming "Air Traffic Control". Then by the time we got in the air the flight attendents acted really wierd by yelling at people in Chinese and ripping peoples head-phones off, as they are not to be worn on take-off. I really liked the announcement that "We are now flying". Anyway what can you do if you want to save about $200us compared to other carriers. Just turn off your brain and let them control what time you leave. And please don't bother letting whoever is going to pick you up at the destination know what time you'll arrive as it is all just a guestimation. I could have had a bad experience so you'll have to try it out for yourself...just don't expect too much from MU!

Note that check-in for *most * (but not al) Air China flights from Hongqiao is now in what is known as Building B (follow the corridor round to the left). This is the old international check-in area, which has now been nicely refurbished.
However, importantly, CHECK THE TV SCREENS for your flight number!!!! Some Air China flights are handled by China Eastern (use the common MU-SC-HN check-in desks.....24 - 30) or Shanghai Airlines (counters 1 - 17).

Many of the international flights land to Shanghai Pu Dong Airport, which is a very modern airport completed in 1999. It is situated east of Shanghai and is around 30km from the downtown of Shanghai. If you plan on taking a taxi, it'll take you approx. one hour from the downtown of Shanghai.

International flights arrive at Pudong International Airport, which is about 30 km east from the city. The cheapest way to get to Shanghai from the airport is to use the airport bus service. See bus schedules, routes, and fares on the airport web site. You can also use the taxi but it's going to cost a lot more. And also alternatively, you can try the Maglev Train, which is the world's first commercial magnetic levitation line.

Only 3 airlines fly direct from Singapore to Shanghai. They are: Singapore Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Garuda Indonesia.
Garuda's fare is the cheapest among the 3.
I will not recommend China Eastern Airlines. See my link to the "Warning/Danger" tips below:
REVIEW OF CHINA EASTERN AIRLINES FLIGHTS

Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport is scruffy, shabby, well-worn and is probably the vest airport in China. It's like it's run by people who have actually thought through what passengers need.
I's all held together by plyboard and pieces of string, but the flights seem to leave on time, arrive on time, and it takes just minutes for bags to turn up on the carousel.
There is - oh deep joy - a 'short distance taxi rank' if you are travelling to locations near the airport (try doing that with a taxi at Beijing Airport and learn four hundred Chinese curses by the time you hit the first speed bump).
Good selection of cafes and restaurants, good selection of shops, a post office, lounges. Check-in always seems quick.
Give me Hongqiao's efficiency over Guangzhou, Beijing or Shenzhen's architectural splendours and sterile air-side facilities.
