And so perhaps old Cliffie can be forgiven for idly looking at some brightly coloured packets and admiring local manufacturers' skill in producing natural, green tea and ice cream flavoured products. He peered more closely and suddenly jumped back in embarrassment. He was looking at flavoured condoms. Ice cream flavour? The mind, if nothing else, boggles. Theme: Other

The marketplace has cheap buys and knock-offs. You will have at least 5 people following you around at all times whispering "dvd, gucci, watch, ect." They followed us the entire time we were in the market(which is actually several buildings about 3 stories each). Don't yell at them, it will just show them that you are acknowledging their presence and are listening to them. Just ignore them, they will never go away and when they do leave, new ones come along. It just makes it easier to conserve your energy. And if you are looking for what they are selling they will keep others off of you while you follow them to their secret shops(it's a nice break). I bought a North Face jacket for around $35, you can probably haggle more(looks like it is right off the assembly line). DVD box sets are a great find to, just remember they will only play on players and computers that are set for this region.
North Face and Columbia jackets, bags, watches, dvds and box sets(only if you have something to play them on, for the region), clothes, and lots more.
If you haggle well, practically nothing for something of pretty good quality. A nice North Face jacket you can get for $35 or less. Have a price in your head of what you want to pay and don't pay a cent more. You can walk away and they will give it to you at the price you want. The silk goods are so tempting to buy in China. At the Dung Wu Factory we see a demonstration on silk quilt making . Here the double cocoons are used . The fluffy balls are stretched and the light layers are used in making gorgeous duvets that are lightweight but warm . The prices are much less than we would see them in the USA. They sell all sizes from twin to king size and they are about $80.00-$120.00 .
Beside the duvets they also sell silk sheets and pillow cases. So just when I had decided ..." I bought enough already !!" Who could resist! Theme: Local CraftAddress: 540 Remin Rd , Shanghai

Loads of shops selling fake but quality clothing
Any type of cllothing and watches and sunglasses etc
I found that the best way to buy items rather than go through the art of bidding is to see the item you require and say directly to the seller i will give you ex amount of rmb (the value you have decided) Example I saw a cardigan and stated I will give you 75 RMB for this cardigan previous visits in the same shop bidding ended at twice the price with no sale reached. The seller agreed without any further bidding this worked time and time again at similar plces Theme: OtherAddress: copy market nan jing lou

I am not a fan of shopping but was transformed…I had fun shopping! ..That’s an amazing thing for me to admit. This is an indoor multilevel swap meet mall. I suppose I shouldn’t say this is where you can buy fake name brands, but it is, so I’m saying it. Bargain, haggle, be firm, and of course, be polite. I started off as rookie haggler but buy the end of the trip I felt like a pro at negotiation. Remember to have fun and know that when the store workers act like they are mad at you, they’re faking it (saving face is everything). Wink and smile. Oh, they will touch you, so don’t be alarmed. It’s unsettling at first, but became kind of funny how much they invade your personal space. Different culture and social norms…gotta love it.
I think you get what you pay for in that the quality isn’t so great. In the beginning, I was focused on what I wanted, but later I was more focused on the fun of haggling and getting a good deal. You must be willing to walk away and also know that once you buy something, don’t get hung up on whether or not you overpaid. If you bought it, then that is what its worth to you and its ok. I my opinion there are two main shopping streets in Shanghai. There is Huai Hai road, where one can find almost anything from books, nice lace bra's, shoes to suits etc. This street seemed to me have a lots of brand shops and the prices were quite high compared to other streets. The other "main" shopping road is most probably Nanjing Lu, which leaves from the Bund and is kilometres long. There you can find shopping malls after shopping malls and also Mc Donalds in every 100 metres (almost!). Between Nanjing Lu and Huai Hai road is Shanxi road south, there you can find smaller shops selling mostly clothes and shoes. But if you are not in the area, do not bother, but it is worth a promenade if you're around. But like in every city, it will be cheaper if you wander away from the mainstreets and look for shops in different areas. The road names I just gave are just few shopping streets in Shanghai but perhaps the most popular ones? Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Before Pudong was built, many expatriates located their offices and homes in Nanjing West Road (Nanjing Xi Lu) in the Jing'an district of Puxi. Today, cosmopolitan Nanjing West Road is home to some of the most famous and poshest shopping malls in Shanghai. Most international designer brands have at least one boutique somewhere here. Famous malls include the Shanghai Centre, Plaza 66 and Westgate Mall. It's sometimes hard to imagine who would shop regularly in these shops, but, hey, there must be enough filthy rich people in Shanghai!
Designer stuff I suppose.
Genuine designer items usually cost more in China than elsewhere because of tax. Theme: Department StoreAddress: Nanjing West RoadDirections: Nanjing West Road stretches west from People's Square as a continuation of Nanjing East Road. The main stretch of shops and malls is located between Jing'an Temple and Nanjing Xi Lu metro stations.

If you're looking for kitsch and tacky goods, the Xian Yang Market is the place for you. You will find all kinds of fake leather goods, clothes and accessories. If you want anything fake, you go here.
I bought Chinese silk blazers for Y500 for 2. I could've gotten a better deal, but I like it so much I couldn't resist. I also bought fake Rayban sunglasses--2 for Y110. I also bought a fake Le Sport Sac bag for Y50. I got my dad a stainless steel flask for Y60.
They only accept cash, so bring lots of it! Theme: OtherAddress: Huai Hai Road
