I am not the only one to find this department store, but more to my liking with cloths that fit me ....ha ha, compared to some of the other stores along Nanjing rd which seem to cater for i suppose more the local domestic market, lucky Shirley!!

What to buy: Well i went out without a jacket this morning and as it was getting slightly chilly tried on some jackets and not bad. They have a good range of clothing for every one.

What to pay: The price for the jacket i bought started at 1400 RMB and i walked away wearing this for 400 RMB, bargain away!!!!!

Dutch Items Shanghai is an European-style boutique that carries affordable designer items from Dutch designer Jolie van Beek. The clothing is fashionable, without being trendy and is a nice keepsake for your trip.

What to buy: They have nice dresses, skirts, sweaters and jersey Ts as well as a selection of imported Dutch shoes.

What to pay: Prices start at 200 rmb, ~30 USD

Cheap Road

Typical Chinese street with cheap shops and malls. On the street people might follow you and offer you fake brands of bags/watches (they show you pictures of Gucci bags and then you need to follow them to their store-they keep things hidden in other, separate room, behind the wall or mirror). For shopping you need to bargain with them.

What to buy: I am not a fan of shopping in China just because I don't like the style, but what people usually buy is clothes, fake bags/wallets/watches. I think they have great tea and scarfs.

What to pay: very very cheap..but bargain always.

Zig zag bridge surrounding by bazaar shops

Unfortunately, we left our visit to Yu Yuan Gardens until our second last day. I say this because it was possibly the cheapest shopping we came across, and by that time, our suitcases were almost full!!! So .... go there early in your Shanghai stay! The Yu Yuan Gardens is not only a beautiful place to visit, the shops in the Bazaar and fantastic. And then ... there are streets of even better shopping outside Yu Yuan, in streets such as Fangbang Road. Best for Chinese souvenirs and jewellery we thought.

Le Ka De Club: Best quality dvd's in Shanghai

Exterior of Ka de Club dvd Shop

Someone on VT (I dont remember who) had recommended this shop in particular as being the best quality dvd's in Shanghai. They have 2 addresses, so we went to the closest one in Da gu Road, and Im so glad we did, cos we also discovered Papa Mario and Shanghai Dragonfly!

Staff were very helpful and spoke fantastic english. They also advised us if they had a movie that was bad quality, so we did not buy it. Their selection was extensive and the ones we have already watched back home are all fantastic quality.

I would highly recommend Ka de Club for your dvd's and cd's. There are a number of dvd shops in Da gu Road, and my friend Chris who lives in Shanghai did tell me that this road is the best place to buy them. Ka de Club is open from 10am-1am. Taxi from our Hotel Metropole return was only 30rmb, so it is not too far from the centre of Shanghai.

Shanghai Underground Markets: Cheap goods in Nanjing Road

Sunglass man's wife and daughter

We discovered this smaller underground market on Day #1, and went back several times over the week. We actually made friends in here, thats how many times we went back! Seriously, the guy we bought our sunglasses from and another guy I bought my soccer shirts from, every time we would go back, it was like "Hello my friend"

Easy to find, in lower Nanjing Road, closer to the Bund at No. 61 Nanjing Road. Prices here were very reasonable and they were happy to bargain hard. These markets are open from 10am-10pm every day.
