Dongtai Road Antique Market is a market mainly dealing with the porcelains, jade wares, bronze wares, wooden wares, calligraphy and paintings and embroidery utensils. There's also some Mao memorabilia. However most of what you see is just rubbish that is made to look antique and has been mass produced. Be careful!

This is a HUGE shopping centre in the street. You can basically find everything you like here, I bought a traditional Chinese shirt that makes me look really Chinese; I bought calligraphy pen and ink; well, I did bought a Starbucks city mug; also I found a bookstore where sells old the very ancient books from early 1900s. I was not there for a long time since I need to rush to Hangzhou.
Besides this whole place is just near a Chinese temple, you can burn a joss stick and pray for a good trip here. I enjoyed the short visit even if it was really really short.
MAKE SURE YOU BARGIN!!!
What to buy: Hm, do not buy expensive international branded stuff, buy something Chinese.
What to pay: RMB, credit card is not that preferable even it is accepted.

Don't miss the shops lining the streets selling handicrafts, teas, silk clothes, calligraphy, jade decorations and china. Picking up one or two pieces as gifts for family, relatives and friends is definitely a good idea – even if at inflated prices but you have always the chances of bargaining...half of the price is always a secure price setting strategy...

What to pay: Bargain !!! Its a must ! You must slash at least 50% off as you won't find price tags here normally.

Not quite sure of the name but your hotel front desk would be able to help, I note that someone has given you the name of a market place, we felt a bit uncomfortable on our first trip there because the touts completely surrounded us, so we asked the police to stop them from doing it, by the time we got to Beijing we had no trouble at all in the markets that we went to. I would also suggest a very good waterproof jacket, not required much in our countries where it is hot, but certainly needed for the winds that can come in those colder countries.
