Century Avenue, Shanghai
It can be romantic evening by walking on Century Avenue at nighttime. All the high-rise buildings are lighting up to have a spectacular views of the area. You can easily find a nice restaurants either a fast food or Pizza restaurants to 5 stars luxury restaurants in here. But, you can hardly find any local restaurants serving local foods in here. There are large number of international crowds hanging out in the bars and restaurants here. Or You could do some shopping at the IFC mall or enjoy the city views from either at Jinmao Tower or observation decks at Shanghai World Financial Centre.
After visiting the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, I started to walk along Century Avenue toward Lujiazui. I walked on a street with flower garden and reached a roundabout. I saw the giant metal sundial sculpture. It is really big, and the metal sundial could reflect some color when it is shrine by the Sun. This becomes the landmark of Pudong, Shanghai. It is a popular place for photographers to take pictures here.
Century Avenue in Pudong is the center business financial avenue in Shanghai, China. It is like the Wall Street in NYC. The difference is that most of the high-rise buildings in Pudong are in modern architectural design, as in Wall Street are mostly colonial styles buildings. The streets in Pudong are wide and well organized. I felt safe walking alone on the avenue, as I could see a traffic police officers in almost every corner of traffic junctions. In addition, CCTV cameras are installed on the street light to observe public's order.
Pudong was a farmland and countryside with some warehouses and wharfs near the shore. Since 1993, the government decided to develop this area as a Special Economy Zone. In less than 20 years, this area has become one of the most prosper financial districts not only for China but internationally.
Stunning city skyscrapers, but no mountains surrounding them.
