Take an elevator up to the Oriental Pearl Tower to get a fantastic view of Shanghai and Pudong. There are actually three levels (spheres) you can visit -- at heights of 90 m, 263 m, and 350 m. One of the levels has a glass floor, where you can look directly beneath your feet to the street below. A very cool experience! Tickets are not cheap -- 180 yuan per person as of December 2011. But if you are into ascending tall structures and skyscrapers, this visit is worth it.

A lot of these tall buildings were built with a lot Feng Shui's theories behind. I took some of the great pictures of tall buildings at Lujiazui. Several famous buildings including:
1) Jin Mao Tower
2) World Financial Center
3) Pudong Shangri-La
4) Intercontinental Pudong Shanghai
There are amazing night scenes at this location.

Lujiazui is the metro station of center of Pudong District. If you wish to see the modern Shanghai high rise buildings like Jin Mao Tower and Word Financial Center Building, and the Oriental Pearl Tower, this is the station that you can see them all. It comes with a huge circle pedestrian bridge allowing you to walk around to get the best spots of your pictures. It was really a "wow' moment for me during night time with all the lighting up.

Once you walk across Huangpu river through The Bund Sight Seeing Tunnel, you could see Shanghai International Convention Center Building and Oriental Pearl Tower. You could get very beautiful pictures up close to these buildings at night. There are two sections of the pedestrian walks along the river front. Both sections allow you to see The Bund with those colonial buildings and Chinese boats cruising along the river. High end restaurants and coffees shops along the river front are available to dine and enjoy the views at the same time.

The waterfront on the Huangpu riverfront opposite the Bund is extensive and several noticeboards were used to identify the important buildings.
Time did not permit us to walk the Pudong waterfront something I regret as it would the nice to be close to these buildings.

The high and unusual buildings are part of the attraction of Shanghai. We took many of our photos from the Bund and found it difficult to identify each building. I happened to find an Information Board identifying the more inportant buildings.
The photos attached identify a section of the district on the opposite side of the Huangpu River.

Pudong is the name given to the area on the eastern side of the Huangpu River in Shanghai. It includes most of the land in eastern Shanghai and is regarded as a 'sub-province' and is semi-autonomous. Development of the area began in 1990 and it has become the financial centre of China.

As of the end of 2008, the SWFC is China's tallest building and the world's second tallest completed building (after Taipei 101), with a height of 492 metres. It has a trademark trapezoid hole at its top. Visit one of its observation decks on floors 94, 97 or 100 (the 100th floor one is the world's highest), for stupendous views of Shanghai, assuming clouds don't obscure your views. Entry to the 100th floor observation deck costs RMB150 for adults and RMB75 for children (2009 prices). The top floors of the SWFC house the Park Hyatt, with the world's highest hotel rooms and bar. The lower floors house shops and restaurants, while most of the rest of the building are occupied by offices.

I didn't think I'd get to visit this area of Shanghai when I was here but I did. I labeled it the playground of Shanghai because it seems there's always something going on that's fun and vibrant. I visited this area at night and from early evening til just before midnight you'll be mesmerized by the pulsing lights of the TV Tower and the constant ebb of traffic, which like so many big cities in China, are always moving. It was here I got to go to the Jinmao Tower and go to the highest bar in the world, Cloud 9. A must if you have time to check it out when you're in town.

The Oriental Pearl Tower stands by the bank of Huangpu River. It is in the centre of Lujiazui, opposite to the Bund which is famous for its grand buildings of various architectural styles. The tower is 468 metres high. It is the highest TV Tower in Asia and is the third highest one in the world.
The Oriental Pearl Tower features 3 columns, each 9m, and 15 observatory levels. The highest which known as the Space Module is at 350 m. The lower levels are at 263 m which is the Sightseeing Floor and at 90 m which is the Space City. On the 259m Sightseeing Floor, there's the world's highest Air Post Office which avails you to send warm greetings to friends when you are overseeing the city. Six high-speed sightseeing elevators take passengers up to the bubbles of the tower, for a 3 dimensional view over the city.
I went there and it was too foggy to enjoy 100% of the view..
The great thing about OPT is the glass-bottomed floor. You can walk over the glass and see through it all the way down to the ground.
Entrance fee: RMB150 to see everything
