The 30 km (18 mile) Transrapid Meglev line a high speed transport system that links Longyang Road, Pudong woth Shanghai's Pudong International Airport in just 8 miniutes.
The Meglev line in Pudong has taken German and Chinease scientist and engineers two and half years to complete at a cost of about 10 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) and is key project in Shanghai.
Critics say that Meglev is too expensive and impractical. But if it proves successful then we may see 1250 km (770 miles) Shanghai to Beijing and 200 km (125 miles) Shanghai to Hangzhau line in future.
One way trip 50 yuan and you get a 10 yuan discount if you have flight ticket of same day.
Do see the Meglev exhibition at the ground floor of the Meglev Longyang Road station where the technology has been displayed. This exhibition is must visit for Tech freaks.
You can also change over to the metro line 2 from here to go to the downtown Shanghai.
The Maglev train is advertised as “The fastest you will travel without flying!” This high speed train reaches a controlled speed of 430 km’s per hour, (267 mph,) and runs between the Longyang road Metro station and the Shanghai International Airport.
Anne and decided to travel on the train by doing a return journey at a coast on 80 Yuan, (US$11.00,) to experience the thrill of speed and to watch the scenery literally rush by the window.
To travel the 30 km’s, (19.6 miles,) between the two stations took 7 minutes and 21 seconds! The trip was very smooth and extremely quiet. (Except for Anne and me commenting on the speed all the time!)
The Shanghai Magnetic Levitation Train has a top speed of about 450 km/h. The first thing we did when we arrived in Shanghai was to board this train. The journey lasted for 7 minutes. During this ride, the top speed of the train was a mind-boggling 380 km/h. Everything (buildings, trees etc) outside the windows seem to pass by in a flash... Being a speed junkie, I enjoyed every minute of this crazy train ride!
This is the cuting edge of technology, many countries have tried and given up, this is running for 32 Km takes just 7 minutes. 430 Km/h is the maximum speed reached on the in-carriage speed indicator, we think that's around 270 miles an hour. Runs to Pudong Airport, take the trip just for the experience, an unforgettable train journey.
