Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is the largest aquarium in Asia with it's 20,000 square meters. It's a modern and very nice nice building - from inside as well as outside - but it was probably one of the most expensive sites that I entered in Shanghai. The entrance costs you RMB 110. Despite of the price, I found the visit worth-while. The aquarium is divided into numerous zones, each displaying hundreds of different specimens.
I happened to visit the aquarium in the afternoon when the feeding took place at 15:30. It's quite fascinating to see how different fish in the same tank react to food. Definitely something that adds more excitement to your visit, especially if you are visiting together with children.
If you travel with children to Shanghai, I definitely will recommend visiting the aquarium located at Lujiazui, Pudong. It is one of the biggest aquarium in the world. It is also currently the only aquarium in the world to have a separate exhibition zone that showcases aquatic animals from China, particularly rare and precious species from the famous Yangtze River. It also has the world's biggest tunnel (500 meters).
Take kids to this place and I am sure that it is worth going to. I have been to couple of aquarium in the world, but I find this one is the longest. Besides that is what they claim they are. The fare is slightly higher than other places.....i.e. Cape Town, Sydney, Malaysia etc.
Located in the shadows of the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is home to more than 300 species of marine animals and boasts the world’s longest underwater tunnel (155 meters). Some of the displays, such as the one featuring endangered species of the Yangtze River, are outstanding. But many of the animals appear stressed and unhealthy. This is not surprising given the number of people, children and adults alike, banging on glass, reaching into the water, and similarly harassing the animals without any apparent fear of repercussion. This appalling behavior and lack of internal controls is, unfortunately, the most enduring memory of a visit to the aquarium. An easy walk from the Oriental Pearl Tower, the aquarium costs Y120 for adults.
If you are travelling with children, don't miss the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. It is very impressive! You can take some close pictures of very big and frightening sharks!
This is quite perfect (better than underwater world in Singapore and Pattaya). I think it's quite similar to underwater world in Australia. If you do have some spare time, take a look.
The Aquarium in Shaghai was great. I recomend taking a trip there. There are some pretty interesting creatures in China.
