When you get to any large Market area such as the Yu Yuan in the Old Town area or any other large shopping area beware of young people asking you to take a look at their art exhibit. This business was in a few areas in Shanghai . The young people ask you to view their works of art at an exhibit. There they show you their Teachers work, their headmasters work and their own work. Little buy little you are encoraged to buy some artwork. Prices were modest , in the 200-300 Yuan range ($25-$35US approx) Some of the pieces are very lovely and would make a nice souvenir for someone but realize what you're getting propositioned for.

When you are in the clothes markets, don't forget to bargain with them. That's very important, especially for tourists. Sometimes, even in the hotel, you can have a bargain, maybe you can have 30 percent or even 40 percent discount..before you pay the money, try to bargain even though the result will be failed, but it's not a big deal to have a try, isn't it? :)

There is a local food called sticky rice. It is wrapped in banana leaves. Do not mistake this for a Chinese type of Sushi and attempt to eat the leaves. They are not tasty...or so I heard.

The shops in the Old Town section of Shanghai were the typical 'tourist trap', selling lots of junky trinkets.
