Shopping in the markets is pure fun!
There are hundreds of tiny stalls where sellers show nearly everything you can look for.
And if something you want isn't there just ask: the shop keeper will disappear and be back in a few mins with what you need.
Of course you have to be careful: if he desn't have the t-shirt you want in the size you need, while disappeared he will just stick a new label on the t-shirt...
And remember to bargain hard. You aren't supposed to pay what they ask, even if it sounds sensible!
What to buy: At the Xiushui Market you find clothes, t-shirts, shoes, backpacks,wind-jakets, bags, silk kimonos and pijamas...
At noon some women will appear carrying huge pans of steaming food... don't miss them: the food is delicious and the meal is going to cost you only a few cents.
At the Panjiayuan Market there are everything else. Antiques (both original and fake), jewellery, maoist relics, paintings, tribal clothes and shoes... it's huge and you are likely to spend there much more time and much more money that you supposed you would!
What to pay: Well, it depends on how good you're at bargaining... actually I'm not very good and I paid 70Y for a backpack when they started at 240Y.
