The easiest and most common way to get to Hunyuan is from Datong. There are regular buses going to Hunyuan County (1 hour, 15 RMB) and from there you should take an illegal taxi to Xuankong Si - The Hanging Monastery. The ride is about 10 RMB - you shouldn't pay more.
When I visited the place I came from Wutaishan, with a mini bus. Now THAT was a ride! We managed to bargain a ride to Xuankong Si for 35 RMB (about 4 hours ride) - that was a great success, since the driver wanted 100 RMB at the beginning. But I'll tell you that story some other time...
We then continued our way back to Datong as described above.
