Luggage and bags:
A day backpack is indispensable
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Temp can fall to -15°C in the evening in late Oct. Hotel often do not have adequate heating system or hot shower. So have enough worm clothing.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sun block/hat/sunglasses - sun can be strong in open grassland or highlands
Moisturizer & Lip gross - air is very dry
Bottled water - tap water may not be safe even when boiled, esp. in the grassland of Zoige and Hongyuan area.
Woolen Scarf/gloves/cap - esp during late autumn / winter when temperture can be irratic.
Heat pad - nights are very cold and heaters in hotel may not be available. I have to used hot water in bottles to keep me warm under the blanket.
Medication - Vitamin C to boast immunity and flu & headache pills in the likely case you catch a chill or suffer from altitude sickness. Food poisoning tablets would be a must in such area.
Tissue packs & antibacterial spray - toilets in the countryside and small townships are filthy and often with no running water.
Photo Equipment: If you can, bring a downloadable harddisk to store your photo/video shots for the day. I brought along 5MB of memory cards but ran out of space just 4 days into the trip.
Miscellaneous: Comfort food - breakfast in most hotels provide porridge with pickles, hard buns and egg. No coffee! My morning fix. Bring along energy bars, dried fruits like raisins and mango, cup noodles (well there were days that I couldn't take anymore of those porridge pickles stuff and dreamt of having chilly tuna).
Buy fresh fruits (oranges, persimmons, and bananas are available in most towns but cheaper in the lowland. I prefer oranges as ithey travel well, last longer and has vitamin C!)
