Dave's Oasis: Cool Dave
Dave is a wealth of information. He know alot of the local area and will always try to answer your questions. He runs trips to see the panda's, he also has the cheapest tickets in Chengdu for the Opera. He said they were so cheap because he wants people to experience some chinese culture. so he makes little if any money off the tickets.
He has cheap cold beer and yummy pizza's! There is a computer free for a half hour and a great selection of cd's which you can browse through. It's a a great laid back place to chill day or night
Shamrock bar and restaurant: expat scene
The Shamrock is a great place to meet local expats as well as locals who are interested in meetin foriegners. There is food, beer and cocktails... the prices are not too bad.. There are also pool tables, darts as well as other games. There is live music every so often and on weekends they have DJ's and a dance floor..
Jin Li Street: Eating, walking, shopping, relaxing,... !!
This area with ancient Chinese style houses has been renovated in 2004 I read somewhere. It's perfect to close the day I feel. There are shops, bars, craftsmen and even hotels, all in a relaxing atmosphere (no one's bothering you to try to sell you something). We went there in March, so there were not too many people, but I can imagine that it get's a little too crowdy in the summer.
The area also holds one short street with about 20 or 30 foodstands, which my wife and her friend really enjoyed as you can see on the picture (I was already full from dinner).
A street full of bars (by the river): Pub street
This bar street is located by the river... Must be at least 30 bars around...
In fact there are too many of them I can't remember the names..
I checked out a few - and they ALL serve warm beer (room temperature) ... If you want it cold - ADD ICE ! Yucks.
Generally, the scene is relaxed and laidback - friends gathered and chat among themselves.
If you're looking for more action just like me (dancing, chatting with strangers, etc), give this street a miss. Otherwise it's a great place to get drunk and go for a night swim (river is just opposite)

They have 2 floors, the 2nd floor has a outdoor corridor facing a pond, which is pretty nice. Live music is on the 1st floor. They also have garden seats. Food is French style, but never tried.
The bar opens daily beyond mid-night

- Business Travel
This place is huge, divided into several sections - one playing the techno/house and the other with a live band belting out Chinese POP music (canto pop & a few English ones once a while) and the last one for the hardcore canto/chinese rock fans.
Drinks are a bit pricey compared to the rest of the town. Beer starts from RMB25 onwards...

Shamrock bar: Does it really rock?
I did check out this place on one Saturday night, and being an nightlife action seeker, I must admit this place bored me.
Expats gather to have drinks, some guy singing on his guitar, and that's about all.
I don't really like it .. sorry. :-)
