I don't have a name but they're everywhere!: While in Chengdu, you must eat hotpot!

    Hotpot, Chengdu, China

For a hotpot, they bring out spiced oil and vegetable broth and boil it in a cooker on the table. Then they bring out all kinds of noodles, vegetables, and meats and you put them in the oil or broth to cook, and scoop them out and eat. It's absolutely delicious and a Sichuanese cultural experience.

Chen Ma Po Dou Fu: Ma Po Dou Fu

by Sharrie Updated Nov 12, 2002

    It was spicy!

Ma Po Dou Fu is a very famous Si Chuan dish originating from Chengdu. It's usually cooked with minced pork. If you like to have a try at cooking it, try looking for the prepared paste from Chinatown. I found them in many chinatowns in the world. All you need then is to buy the beancurd (tofu) & minced pork & you'll have a Chinese dish ready!

Favorite Dish: Naturally, Ma Po Beancurd ;-)

by Sharrie Updated Nov 12, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

One can find the most creative & excellent culinary expertise here. It's not only economical (by foreigner's standard) but also easy to order (there is pictorial menu & English translation!).

    Best for dinner.

Favorite Dish: These are what I had during lunch:

    Yeh cai ba.
    Yu Mi Gao.
    Xiao Tang Yuan.
    Huang Jing Gao.

Many types of local dim sum can be ordered here though I much prefer the night dishes. They are amazing yummy!

There are many dishes on the menu which I have never even seen from Chinese restaurants I've frequented across the globe. Gosh, this place is so amazing!

For those who can't take spicy food, be careful when ordering, check first. Majority of the Si Chuan dishes are hot & spicy!

Favorite Dish: Stir fried diced turtle with red & green pepper.
    A specialty of Chengdu.

Si Chuan is the heaven of delicious food. But don't forget to ask for 'bu yao tai la'(please don't put too much pepper), otherwise your tongue will become dumb, sweat and tears...
Besides Chuan Cuisine, you can easily find Tibetten food such as the famous 'Cheese Tea'(Su You Cha), 'Zan Ba'.

The 'Crossing bridge noodles' of Chengdu, cost RMB5 for small and RMB10 for big. You must! This noodles is very much like the Chinese steamboat where there are many small dishes on plates for us to put it into the hot soup, the service here was fast, we waited less than 5 minutes only before everything were already on the table. This is also a street of eating as you can see in this photo. We have so many choices to choose. Yeah.

This place looked really nice from the outside, but inside it was a little disappointing. The hotpot was good, but nothing more. Maybe we should’ve chosen a different soup.
