Hong Jing Tian

by imstress

The local guide together with the Singaporean guide tries to sell us some Tibetan medication that will prevent motion sickness and high altitude sickness. We thought that this “Hong Jing Tian” is sleeping pill syrup which makes you tired and sleepy and stop you from feeling it. It’s all in the mind.

Tour guides

by victorwkf

I find the female tour guides of Jiuzhaigou to be very friendly and knowledgable in the customs and the region. Since we are travelling in a group, we managed to get one guide of the Zhuang tribe to ourselves plus a comfortable bus to drive us around.

Bargaining

by victorwkf

Like many other places in this part of the world, it is important to bargain when you are buying things, even to the extend of cutting the price by more than half. Once you have reach a point where the price cannot be lowered any more, I feel that it is no point trying but give the money to the old people. After all, they are leading a hard life and this money is used to support their family and build better facilities for them.

Organized tours

by stmlnyc

Organized group tours are the easiest and probably best way to travel in China, it is just not suited for independent travelers, especially if you can t readChinese. The tour I booked for Sichuan Province was through Shanghai China International Travel Service Co. at 3380 RMB including airfare (at 1100), breakfast (nothing to write home about, so I wont), and accommodations. Keep in mind, the tour includes frequent stops to selected stores (of course, the tour operator gets paid for bringing you in) where you can buy crystal jewelry (pretty butnot a precious metal), souvenirs made from yaks and their horns (combs, jerky, knives, etc.), and herbal medicines--I was diagnosed with a heart condition, kidney problems, arthritis, etc. which can be remedied with the herbs/roots sold in the stores--ow convenient. The doctors' examinations consisted of seeing my tongueand feeling the pulse in my...
