This driver has a VW Santana 3000. He is called Mr. Shen, originally a Tibetan. I actually prefer this driver as I feel he is more honest.
Typical day trip from Jiu Zhai Gou to Huang Long is CNY 400 - 600 in high season.
if you don't have much time, there are several flight a day to and from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou, if you are lucky and end up with a clean window, you'll be really happy with the photo opportunities flying into JZG.
getting to Jiuzhaigou entrance should cost 150 to 200
the driver that we used for our last 2 trips in and around Chengdu was Mr. Jin Hong (13708183127), the taxi driver we used in JZG was Mr. Lai 13882483813
neither speaks English, Mr. Jin is in his 40s and a safe driver, Mr. Lai scared the hell out of my family but got us to and from the airport in one piece
If you wish to move around Jiuzhaigou town, use the local yellow taxis. They are relatively cheap and abundant in suppy too. About RMB5.00 for a short ride eg 10mins. Besides the Park itself, there are some local points of interests such as pubs, mini-marts, restaurants, eateries, souvenir shops etc that are scattered along the main road coming from direction of the airport road.
We didn´t know how to go to Huang long from Jiuzhai gou and we were worried as there were a lot of people and the communication it was not easy because we didn´t find English speakers ( Not even in the Sheraton ) .
At the end we met a Hong Kong couple , that helped us a lot and they were so nice that they allowed us to share the taxi with them , to go to Huang Long and at the end of the day to the SongPan airport ( It takes 2,5 hours to go and we paid for the taxi 225 x 2 Yuan )
It is handy, also necessary to hire a TAXI to get around. Usually you agree a price with the driver up front and don't pay by meter.
Mr. Zhang is a very experienced driver, has a new VW Santana Vista, clean and big enough for a group of 4.
He is very nice and has a good sense of hummer. Attached is his name card.
I went there by airplane, it only take 45mins if no delay. When we return, the weather was not stable and it was snowing ( April little snow). so that we had spent 2 hours waiting in the small airport.
For those who have plenty of time, you may try to take Train, but it takes around 12 hours to get there.
Month travelled - September 2006.
Airline used - Air China (code: CA) (national domestic airline) - preferred this to China Eastern (code : MU)
From Chengdu--> Jiuzhaigou --> Chengdu
Fare paid - RMB 2,180.00
Ticket bought @ Air China office in downtown Chengdu - 3 days before flying (Note : Very convenient! )
Departure airport/terminal - (old) Chengdu (Province) Airport -which is next to the main international airport (the one that you will use to get to other capital cities too) about 850m away.
Arrival airport - (new) Jiuzhaigou Airport - up at 2000m. - they are still adding more terminal building at this time.
Delayed incurred : Departure - late by 1 hour only due to runway congestion that day. Return - ontime.
Best to fly during daytime.
Flight experience : Good.
View from plane : .... woohoo... beautiful !! Greatly recommend to fly !
The airport is above 12,000 ft. and is often
covered by clouds.
Be advised that the planes do not operate when there is heavy cloud cover so you may be delayed.
Check the weather reports before you plan your trip.
The bus from Chengdu takes about 8 hours
and may be a better option when heavy cloud cover is expected.
