If you are interested in Chinese art history, than you may find visiting this Mahaoya Tomb Museum as rewarding as seeing the Grand Buddha. Above one of the tomb entrances, is the oldest example of a Buddha statue found in China (not including those along the Silk Road). Photography is not allowed in the tomb. However, they have a couple of ancient stone coffins with carvings like these (see pic) in the courtyard.

Most people come to Leshan for the Grand Buddha, including us, but don't forget to take your time to walk around the park. When you are tired, you can find little restaurants like this by the river near an 800 year old bridge decroated with dragons. You can pick out fresh ingredients, like fish and shrimp, right from the open kitchens.

Waterfront Stroll

Do what the locals do, take a leisurly walk along the waterfront opposite side to the Grand Buddha. There are plenty of benches to sit down and watch people go by. For 2 yuan you can take a small ferry to the island (more like a sand bar) lying in the middle of the river between you and the Buddha.
