The best way to get the best view of Dafo (the Great Buddha) is by taking a boat ride that hovers in front of the statue for about 10 minutes. You also get to see the other features beside him like the Guardian figures and the footpaths. The boat leaves from the dock on the other side of the river near the tall hotels and costs Y50.

The best way to get to Leshan from Chengdu is by bus. Buses leave from Chengdu's Xinnanmen bus station every 20 minutes or so. The bus station is located on the southern side of the river on Lin Jiang Zhong Lu near Xin Nan Lu. The journey takes about 2 hours and cost me Y44.

Leshan has no airport and railway station, take bus from Chengdu to Leshan is very easy, only about 10 minutes between two bus. Leshan has two bus stations. you may take internal bus of leshan or take a taxi(not more than 15 YUAN) to the Giant Buddha.
there is also buses from Leshan to Emei, it's quiet close.

Bus terminal: Shi Yang (stone ram) bus center,
Operation time: 7:30 - 19:00
Bus type: imported with air conditioning and reclining seat backs, very comfortable and clean
Frequency: headway 20 minutes
Fare: 37 RMB/person one-way
The one-way trip took 1.5 hours.
The road was very smooth (newly built) , not much traffic. The time we went there, not crowded, no more than 10 people on the big bus. Make sure you are taking the big bus.

Take a tour boat from Leshan Pier (across Taoyuan Hotel) for a frontal view of the Grand Buddha.
