Baima People

by imstress

Pingwu Baima Scenic Spot is situated in the Northwest of the Sichuan Basin. It borders on the World Nature Heritages of Jiuzhaigou Natural Scenic Spot and Huanglong Scenic Spot. Baima Customs Tourist Zone is inhabited by the Baima zangs that belongs to Chinese ethnic minorities. The Baima people wearing bright and colorful clothes have special language and custom.Baima people are good at both singing and dancing. They like to gather around a stove serving highland barley wine and singing a toasting song called Jiuge. When a bright bonfire is built in the stockade village at night, they will dance the Yuan Yuan cheerfully with hand in hand.

Traditional way of life

by victorwkf

Outside the cities, the life in Sichuan is generally still very traditional and laid back. A lot of modern facilities are still not available in the remote regions. For example, people still obtain water from wells and manual pumps (see photo) are used to get the water from underground.

Drinking Tea

by victorwkf

The teas in Sichuan province, and Yunnan province to the south of Sichuan are very famous. Drinking tea is a favourite passtime in this part of China, and you must try the various types of teas when you are visiting Sichuan.

Cultural performance

by victorwkf

In places like Chengdu or Jiuzhaigou, there are colourful Sichuan cultural performances which depict the songs, dances and customers of ethinc groups such as the Qiang and Zhuang (Tibetan) people. Not to be missed when you are in Sichuan.

Poor English

by stmlnyc

You'll probably notice some of the awkward (and often wrong) use of English and horrendous spelling mistakes, especially outside of large cities. But even at national parks frequented by foreign tourists and reputable international establishments you'll see this. At Haagen-Dazs, the receipt says Thank you, please experience us again or an offer for a bodymessage. The picture was taken in Du Fu's Thatched Cottage in Chengdu.

Homes of Baima

by imstress

Tourism has also brought them better houses. You could even find TV and satellite dishes in some of their homes. The houses are build with wood and covered with stones.

Tip Photo
motorcycle versus horse

by tompt

It looked like the motorcycle won over the horse, some years ago you could have seen the men going to a festival on their horse, but today the colorful (prayer)flags are transported by motorcycle.

Local handicrafts

by victorwkf

Like the local people and customs, the local handicrafts are very colourful and interesting. They are also relatively cheap as souvenirs.

Welcome custom of the Zhuang people

by victorwkf

The welcome custom of Zhuang people is that they like to give you a white scarf to be put around the neck. Sometimes famous people or performers could get a lot of white scarfs around their necks.

Houses

by victorwkf

Houses in the rural and mountain areas are basic, as can be seen by this house of the Zhuang (Tibetan) people with the characteristic prayer flags.
