Restaurant at Nuorilang rest centre: Food at Juzhaiguo Park

by francischris

This rest centre is built 4 star standard so the decor is not bad. 10.30am till 2pm for Nov till Mar10.30am till 4 pm for April till OctBasic Sichuan food buffet stye.Either 45 Yuan or 25 yuan.We tried the latter and it is money for value, general standard is good.About 10 dishes with soup. They supplied chopsticks only and no spoon,so u have to drink your soup from the bowl ,Japanese style.Cutlery could be improved! The only choice within the park.

Shan Zhen Wang: Shan Zhen Wang

by imstress

We head to “Shan Zhen Wang” for lunch which is under the tour group package. There were many other tour vans and coaches that stop by for lunch. Tourism indeed has brought life and fortune to this small restaurant out of no where. It has a very good location which is on the new route to Jiuzhaigou.Mushrooms which looks like abalone, fatty pork, melon with groundnuts, steam boney fish, pork fried with fungus, egg omelets are some of the dishes that we had.As usual, we had over 10 dishes per meal. I was so happy that they serve sweet cherry tomatoes after all the dishes. I think I ate more of it than those oily foods. I was so afraid that I would put on a lot of weight after this tour.We were warned by our guides not to eat too much of those fruits from street vendors as they may cause stomach upset for some who eat them in large quantity.

Restaurant in Prince Hotel: Restaurant in Prince Hotel

by imstress

We had an early dinner at the restaurant in Prince Hotel. This is the first meal that our group has. On the table were some over 10 dishes with huge portion. We couldn’t finish our food at every meal. The vegetables, fried eggs, soup, tofu, noodles in soup and some meat are the dishes we get to see on our dining table at every meal. I miss the fast food and comfort food back at home.

Man jiang Hong mei Shi Chang: Hotpot at Juizhaiguo

by francischris

Literally the restaurant name" Man Jiang Hong" means the river overflowing with blood. What a gory name !We saw the next table of Chinese visitors ordering a rabbit for dinner. The poor rabbit (huge like a hare)was ahown to the customers n later taken to weigh,as the prc is probably based on per 500 gms which is equivilant to 1 Chinese kati.Later on we heard squealings probably that was the end of the rabbit. However that did not whet our appettite as we were cold n also exhausted after walking around the National Park the whole day.We ask for hotpot with goat meat but was told that we were a week too late as this is served only in the colder months. The alternatives are either Chicken or Higland beef ie; hairy cow meat .We opt for the latter, having not eaten it before. We had a big wok of Hairy cow meat in soup. The hairy cow is a species of cattle that survived on the highlands with black...

Emmas Kitchen, China: at Emmas

by tompt

At Emmas you can have a great meal, just a drink or get some tour information. One wall is covered with information, on the region, on Songpan, on busses to other cities and so on....The food at Emmas is very western, and with all the tourists coming here it looks not very chinese.Emma is a chinese young woman who speaks english perfectly, and offers help with everything you could possibly need. breakfast with real Nescafe, that is the closet to coffe one can get in China.

Tour lunch stop

by stmlnyc

The lunch meals provided on the tour weremediocre...either too bland or extremely spicy...and that became my impression of Sichuan cuisine. The service was rushed and often not all the dishes served. Don't expect too much, it is meant to keep you full until dinnertime.

Ba Go Boo E: Ba Go Boo E

by stmlnyc

There is a nice restaurant in Chengdu pronounced Ba Go Boo E serving authentic Sichuan cuisine. It is right across from the U.S. Embassy and popular among the better-heeled tourists. For a more local fare, try the one pictured (dont have an English translation) but it is tasty Sichuan hotpot served in the local manner...very loud and pushy on the flithy sidewalk. Best to go with someone who can speak Mandarin or better yet Sichuanese, the wait staff's English is very limited.

Wannian complex snacks

by stmlnyc

In the Wannian Temple complex near Mt. Emei, the food stands serve delicious snacks. Try the many types of bean curds and the skewers snacks. If you have the little birds, its probably easiest to eat them whole!

Sichuan Hotpot

by stmlnyc

The tour offered a Sichuan hot pot complete with a dancing, kung fu, and changing masks show for only 68 RMB per head. The hotpot was buffet style with a spicy hot section in the middle and a broth soup around it. (The fare to be cooked was standard except the pig brain dish!--kind of mushy with a gamey aftertaste)
