Getting Permits to Tibet

by MikeySoft

Some hostels in Chengdu to look into about permits for Tibet. This hostel is under new ownership bit it looks like they still offer permits.http://www.gogosc.com/en.aspThis hostel looks like they still do.http://www.mixhostel.com/index_eng.htmThere are more, just go to VT Chengdu travel page and filter on hostel. You can Google on the names if they don't list the hostel's web site.

Look out for the Police

by imstress

The “Gong An” or the local police are strict with traffic rules. So do not get caught for any traffic offences or you may have to pay a high price. They are likely to hide on the road to do spot checks.

This cabbie,Mr.Deng is of Qiang Minority. He is very friendly and we got to know him thru the Sheraton's conceirge. The cab is clean and reigistered.Car number:Chuan(in Chinese character) U21338.Journey to bus station from hotel cost yuan5 and to National park cost 7 yuan for 1,5 km.Perhaps it is low season ,so we literally got him at beck n beckon.Bring us to town for dinner n pick us back, get us tickets at discounted rates for the cultural perfomance at night..etc Very nice guy,so we decided to give him a tip when he fetch us to the bus station at 7 am in the morn,

Around Chengdu on a trishaw

by francischris

U can take in the sights of Chengdu city while enjoying the eco friendly ride on a trishaw powered by sheer man-power.Walking the route would take about 40 mins, hence we hailed a trishaw. After some haggling we argreed on a fare of 7 yuan.At the end of the ride we decided to give him 10 yuan instead as we find the trishaw cyclist friendly and amicable.

The Trishaw
Flight or Bus

by Meg_nanako

We flew in to JuiZhaiGou from Chengdu. The air ticket was about 750yuan/one way. But it is more expensive during the peak period in October/November. The locals told me 750/yuan to JuiZhai is not expensive. There are direct buses from the airport that takes you to HuangLong or JuiZhai. It's about 2 hours to get to the JuiZhai town. The transport prices are standard prices, there's no need to bargain. It's best to buy return flights from Chengdu if you have no wish to pay high agent's fee in JuiZhai. One can also takes the 85yuan/person, 10 hours bus ride from Chengdu to JuiZhaiGou. The road journey is tedious and quite windy, passing through MinJiang.
