Tianjin has both modern shopping malls and distinctive traditional stores, both of which will fulfil your desire. The two pedestrian shopping streets of Binjiang Dao and Heping Lu are the busiest and most prosperous shopping centres in Tianjin. Most of top shopping malls or department stores can be found on these two streets, like Quanye Chang, Isten Department Store, Jinhui Shopping Square, Parkson Shopping Centre and Wal-Mart supermarket. There are also some restaurants along these streets as well as western chains such as KFC, McDonalds and Starbucks.

Zhang's clay figurines is a Tianjin famous specialty and highly sought after souvenir.

During the Qing Dynasty, Tianjin was already well known for its small clay figurines.

When Zhang Changlin (1826-1906) added colors on the figurines, it created a sensation and the figurines became famous not only all over China but around the world.

Many of the figurines are based on China rich folklore and legends. So you got to know about Chinese culture to appreciate these figurines too.

Shopping Street in Tianjin: Binjiang Dao (Bingjiang Street)

At the beginning of the shopping street.

This is a tip for a shopping street in Tianjin. It is a kind of walking street with plenty of big shopping malls and smaller shops. Here one can find the multinational hamburger "providers shop" as well as other well known brands and one US based cafeteria with the green logo.

There are small "tourist trains" taking people from one end to the other end of the street as it is quite long.

What to buy: Shop till you drop. Prepare yourself with good walking shoes as the street is really long.

What to pay: Price level? Hard to say but I would say that price level on this street is higher than anywhere else in Tianjin (but what do I know, I was just a tourist there!). Isn't it normally so that the most popular places in cities (no matter where in the world) are the most expensive ones?

Binjiangdao: Tianjing is to Beijing what bargain is to shopping

Unleash the consumer in you

The busiest shopping streets in Tianjing are concentrated around Binjiangdao and Hepinglu.

What to buy: You can find some brand-name knockoffs and dare one say counterfeit products along this street. At the end of Binjiangdao to the south, there are over a hundred stalls in a makeshift open-air market covered by tents that sell the inexpensive cloths, shoes, accessories, and bags for those who are not having any of the more expensive stuff in the shops or malls.
