Photo Equipment: since the scale of the views at nam-tso lake is so vast, you'll definitely need a camera with decent zoom capability (at the very least 12x optical zoom). only by zooming in will you capture details of the snow-capped nyenchen tanglha mountain range at the other end of this mammoth 70km x 35km lake.
the landscape features on the side of the lake you'll be on are so spaced out as well that only a zoom lense will do.
obviously, the more serious your zoom lense, the better!

Miscellaneous: even if you don't usually like to video your vacation (like me), make sure you bring a videocam or at least a digicam with decent video capability (like i did) when going to nam-tso lake.
why? video will be the only way to capture the roaring winds you'll encounter at the banks of the lake! pictures just won't do it! only video can record the absolutely crazy noise caused by the winds here. when i was recording, i really had to scream just so that my voice could be heard.
this will be the only way you can truly share this amazing experience with people back home.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: especially for people going to nam-tso for the day only, make sure you bring a thick jacket (windbreaker, waterproof if possible). the high elevation pretty much ensures cold winds even if you go during warm months. high winds and a drizzle at this altitude often translates into a snowstorm - the weather here changes quickly.
weather protection for your head is also going to come in handy.
i will suggest closed hiking shoes, not open sandals (wore open sandals with socks but realized closed are better). you will encounter sand on the banks of the lake, not good for open shoes.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: bring toilet paper! like i said in my warning tip, toilets are hard to come by here and even if you make it to the one at the entrance, there will be no toilet paper available for sure!
Miscellaneous: bring sunglasses. the vast sky reflecting on the water makes for a bright scenery, bring shades otherwise you'll be squinting the whole time.

Miscellaneous: when making the trip to damxoi and nam-tso lake (usually from lhasa), you'll be on the road for several hours. the places along the way where you can stop will be few and far between so make sure you bring an adequate supply of bottled water (adequate depends on how quickly you get thirsty).
though this area of tibet is not as dry as the terrain you'll pass on the way to gyangze and xigaze, it's better to have bottled water to drink especially since the hiway to nam-tso steadily rises in altitude - always good to constantly drink water when going to higher elevations.
bring snacks to munch on as well.

Miscellaneous: bring a watch with an altimeter (i had a suunto xlander).
if you're going to tibet, you'll be encountering elevations you're likely never to encounter again - personal altitude records is what i mean. might as well record it, right?
also, better to be aware of the elevations you reach so that you can better "hike high, sleep low" - the general rule in traveling at high altitude so as to avoid acute mountain sickness (AMS). being aware is key if you're going to stay healthy up here.
