(had to include this tip here cos nam-tso isn't exactly in damxoi, just near it.)
when planning a trip to tibet, i highly recommend including a trip to nam-tso, most stunning of tibet's four sacred lakes. although it is about 5 hours from lhasa by 4x4, nam-tso can be done in a day. you can leave lhasa early in the morning, get there just after lunch, spend an hour or two, then head back and get back to lhasa by dinnertime. no need to sleepover like others do, a couple of hours there is fine.
because of its distance from lhasa and the 1100m climb, i didn't include it in my itinerary at first. but i decided to go for it on the morning of my last day because i finished my tour early and because i was already acclimatized (stay in lhasa at least 3 days before making the trip).
best decision of my life! this is the most awesome place i've ver seen! clear turquoise waters with snow-capped peaks in the background!
from any hotel/guesthoue in lhasa, you can join a trip to nam-tso by 4x4. cost is about Y1500-Y1600 for the roundtrip so for a group of 4, it'll be about Y400/person. entrance fee to lake is Y40/person. you can also get in touch with my guide, nga wang, to arrange a trip for you. his contact info is listed below.
do it, i guarantee it'll be worth it! (see my damxoi page for more photos).

to get to nam-tso lake, you'll have to negotiate a 5200m high mountain pass. at the top of the pass, make sure you stop and take pictures. if you're lucky, the weather will cooperate and you'll have a stunning view of the lake below. if you're not so lucky, you'll encounter a snowstorm like i did! either way, pictures from this vantage point will be awesome.
on your way back, make sure you stop and take photos again. since it will be a different time of day already, the colors of the sky and the landscape will surely be different. on my way back, the weather cleared and this made for fantastic photos.
have your camera ready as you cannot stop at this point for too long because the road is narrow and winding.

when on your way up the 5200m high mountain pass that leads to nam-tso lake, be sure to keep an eye out (and your camera ready) for the famous nomads of nam-tso - the drokpas of changtang plateau. (pls. refer to local customs tip for more info about them).
you will be able to see their brown tents dotting the mountainside and may have to slow down to get a good picture (hope your camera has decent zoom). if you're lucky, you'll be able to see them riding around and going about their daily business of herding yak and sheep.
keep taking pictures if you spot any of them - don't assume you'll see more of them on the other side of the mountain or on the way back, they're quite elusive (guess that's why they're called nomads). you'll see some locals by the lake but they'll be busy hawking stuff or horse/yak rides - not exactly nomads in their daily routine.
