Here we go around the mullberry bush..

This path has been beaten by many pilgrims over the centuries. Just below the Potala.

Nam Tso

Nam Tso is Tibet's largest salt lake and a site of pilgrimage for many Buddhists.

It's a full days drive from Lhasa and you have to camp. The feeling of emptiness is worth the effort.

Chinese army in front of the Potala

I was just fast enough to catch this picture before the Chinese army asked us not to, probably embarassed from posing in front of this Tibetan symbol, to show their control of the territory.

Yuan Dynasty Buddha Statue by the roadside from airport to Lhasa. This Buddha painted on a rock overlooks the small lake on my intro pix. It is a landmark for pilgrims on the way to the capital.

Situated about 60 km east of Lhasa on Mount Wanrigu at 3800 m, Gardan was founded by Tsong Kapa in 1409. It's a Gelukpa monastery & one of the 3 found in Lhasa.
