As far as I know there are couple of night markets in the city and this is one of them. We didn't plan it but we arrived there at the perfect timing to watch the opening of this market. It was very funny that we saw these hawkers were gather outside the street and waited when the time was up a security let them in and they all ran to set up their booth, it was like a racing competition.
Its easy to find nightclub disco etc. in Urumqi, I went to Karaoke at night with the Xinjian TV people (they have interview me for the trip), funny that I donno any song on the list.End up singing some really old english song to entertain everyone, song list are like:- I went to your wedding- Where the boys are- How much is that dog in the windowhonestly, those songs are of my mother's age :p
