After a very long drive (from Sost in Pakistan, over the Khunjerab Pass), and lots of red tape and bag searches, when we finally got into Taxkorgan and could relax, the first thing we wanted was a decent meal. The restaurant at our hotel was closed for renovations, so we walked a little way down the road, and stumbled across this place.
We couldn't understand the menu on the table (completely in Chinese!), but the food of the other customers looked and smelled amazing to our rumbling bellies, so we asked timidly if they had a menu in English, and to our amazement they did!
We ordered two different plate of noodles, one boiled and one fried, both with vegetables as my partner is veggie. The second, fried, plate took a while to come, and both had meat (thankfully my partner's OK to pick it out!), but the food was absolutely outstanding. Best meal we'd eaten in a while!
We would have loved to have come here with more people, ordered a range of dishes and got to play with the turntable in the middle a bit more! Oh, and free green tea, like most other restaurants in these parts!

I had came into this place while wandering in the small town on my arrival day. Noticing a lot of people coming in and out from this shabby looking restaurant. I went inside for a peep, to my surprise, it's interior was beautiful with lavishly decorated walls and ceilings.
There are two sections in the restaurant. Near entrance ,there is medium size dining area and private cubicles. Further in, a big space with dining tables , a dance floor and small stage for bands and performers! The dancing is usually in the evenning.
I came the next day for lunch and the place was less congested compared to the evenning. Food is inexpensive. I think I paid less than 10 yuan for my noodle and tea.
Favorite Dish: I had only tried Laman and it was really good. This is the only meal with mutton that I had had enjoyed througout my time in Xinjiang as I do not like eating mutton. Judging by its crowds, the food must be good.

The most memorable of Tashkorgan was the restaurant we dined. That dinner was an internatonal party where we have 2 Malaysians, 2 Swiss, Portuguese, Brazilian and Japanese (2 German were missing). In that occassion, myself and Andy became the host because we speak Chinese. We asked for a Big-Plate-Chicken 40 yuan for all and 5 other delicious dishes. After the first dish was served, our Brazilian friend somehow brought up a question "Hey do they sell beer here?"
Yes of course they do, all Chinese do. After that meal, Brazilian said " You mean only 6 yuan for 2 big bottles of beers ! " Yes only 6.

Xinjiang Beer is here for you.....hey sounds like a commercial slogan. This photo was taken the moment we were enjoying our first Chinese foods after almost a month of Pakistanis foods. In here, everybody just mad, mad about the tea, the foods and the beer. All these were served in the Muslim restaurant, by a Muslim owner and Muslim waiter. Later we discovered that all Chinese just drink whatever they want regardless of what religions.
Favorite Dish: Da Pan Ji (Big Plate Chicken) is our top choice in Tashkorgan, a special dish by the Muslims.

At night after 8pm, I saw so many street vendors selling roast meat, yes I saw chicken, mutton etc in stick. This kind of foods were Tajiks for sure, from the way they dress and their big beard.

Mutton rice by the Tajik is our delicious last lunch before we leave Tashkorgan. It cost just 5 yuan per bowl. The bowl is big enough, enough.
