    Urumqi bazaar

    There is a large bazaar housed in a new building. It is a strange mix of traditional bazaar and modern shopping mall. If you can't make it to Turpan, this is a good place to try the local raisins.

    Turpan is a town famous for its grapes, Karez Wells, Sugong Mosque, second lowest point on earth and the lowest rainfall in Asia. It can be reached via vehicle or train from Urumqi.

    One of the interesting thing to do in Urumqi is to explore the streets & bazaars. There are many stores selling grapes, fruits, collectable knifes etc.

    Make time for a visit to the big mosque and minaret just outside the city - it's not still in use but is really, really beautiful and very peaceful.

    there is a Canon Temple, built in 1700's which the construction fee were donated by the believer from Taiwan especialy from kao Shiung area. You may need to go there by Ferry (RMB 20).

    People say that 'When you visit Urumqi, you should go to Tian Chi.' However, visiting Tian Chi became more and more commercial nowaday and the view depends a lot on season and weather.

    It seems quite simple and coarse when compared with the Great Wall at Badaling, Beijing. Built two thousand years ago, the materials used are sand, stones and straw.

    About 70 km south-west of Dunhuang, it is the important pass of ancient Silk Road’s southern route. The original one is in ruins. The long corridor we see today was rebuilt on the damaged site.

    It is an oasis town on the railway line to Urumqi, famous for its sweet grapes and Hami melons. Underground channels bring snowmelt from the nearby Tianshan range for irrigation.
